A Painting of A Crying Boy Was Said To Be Cursed And The Reason Why Multiple Houses Burnt Down Around It

A writer and comedian named Steven Punt decided to explore the legend himself. He obtained a Crying Boy painting of his own and tested its resistance to fire with the assistance of construction researcher Martin Shipp.

When they set fire to the artwork, the flames didn’t spread much. They concluded that it was due to a fire-retardant coating, which would explain why the painting remained relatively untouched in burned homes. However, this finding did little to quell the public’s worries about a curse.

The paintings haven’t been reprinted for decades, but the legend behind them lives on.
