Stop Making These Five Hair-Brushing Mistakes To Promote Better Hair Health And Growth

Brushing our hair is usually something we do without ever giving it a second thought. It’s probably been a part of your morning get-ready ritual for years, and you could cycle through the task with your eyes closed.
But what if something so routine, so every day, is actually causing our hair harm?
You might be shocked to learn that most of us are making a ton of hair-brushing mistakes that are wreaking havoc on our locks. Let’s break them down.
Brushing Wet Hair
If you just stepped out of the shower, resist the urge to tackle your tangles right away. I am personally guilty of this blunder.
When wet, your hair strands are in their most vulnerable state. Brushing them at this time could just lead to breakage and split ends.
Instead, wait until your hair is just slightly damp before starting to detangle. And don’t forget to be gentle.
Using The Wrong Brush
All brushes were not created equal. So, depending on your hair type, your ideal hairbrush likely won’t be the same as other people in your household.

From paddle brushes to round brushes, vented ones to boar bristle varieties, each type has a different purpose. Using a brush that doesn’t match your hair type could be doing more harm than good. That’s why it’s crucial that you do a little research and find the perfect brush partner to help your hair, not hurt it.
Brushing From Root To Tip
We have all been there. After a swim at the beach, a windy baseball game, or an intense workout, our hair is totally knotty. And in order to get out all of those pesky knots, starting at the scalp and pulling a hairbrush through the ends seems like the most logical strategy, right?
Well, actually, this couldn’t be more wrong. The root-to-tip method can cause serious damage by actually pulling knots tighter and causing more breakage.
Instead, start by brushing your ends and working your way up. You will slowly tackle tangles in a much more effective and less painful way.
Over-Brushing
Classic fairytales often depict princesses like Rapunzel brushing their hair one hundred times before bed. But this habit is not a one-way ticket to dream-like locks.
In fact, over-brushing your hair will just lead to friction, cause cuticle damage, and result in frizz and breakage. So, only brush your hair when it really needs it!
Ignoring Your Scalp
Last but certainly not least, we have to stop neglecting our scalps. While brushing your hair is important, remember that stimulating your scalp with a good brush session is equally critical. This habit will help distribute natural oils and promote healthy hair growth.
