Her Fiancé Has Been Very Ill, So She Created A Donation Page To Help Fund His Recovery, But Her Friend Accused Them Of Just Trying To Get More Money For Their Wedding

This 25-year-old woman is engaged to her fiancé, Joey, 26.
Not long ago, Joey had surgery for his leg and hip, and, unfortunately, there were complications afterward.
Ever since Joey had his surgery, he has been ill and physically weak.
While she and Joey normally don’t reach out for help, this surgery and the complications he suffered have put them in a difficult financial situation.
In order to pay the medical bills related to Joey’s recovery, they have had to use savings they’d set aside for their wedding.
But this doesn’t bother them because if they don’t have the money for a big wedding, they wouldn’t mind getting married at the courthouse.
Understandably, their main priority right now is to make sure Joey is healthy and that his recovery goes as smoothly as possible.
Despite not feeling entirely comfortable asking for help, she and Joey set up a donation page in the hopes that they could have a bit of support while trying to afford Joey’s medical bills.
One month ago, her friend, Karla, 25, donated $10, and she thanked her for the donation.

“Last week, we posted an update, not asking for money, but just to let people know that Joey has had another setback, and the doctors are creating an all-new treatment plan for him. Karla commented publicly and said the following: ‘I’m beginning to question if he has actually been sick this long or if y’all are just trying to get more money for your wedding. Who takes this long to recover from surgery, especially when you’re an athlete?'” she said.
In response, she wrote back to Karla, telling her that her comment was offensive. She continued, telling her that she was shocked she would claim they were lying.
Then, she told Karla that perhaps she was lashing out because she wasn’t having a good day or was just momentarily judging them unfairly. She ended her comment to Karla by expressing how awful it was that she would say something like that about her and Joey.
“She replied, ‘I want my donation back unless you can show proof that he’s sick. In a hospital bed or sitting in a doctor’s office…anything?’ I sent her $10 to get her off our backs, but I also sent her a video–the proof she asked for,” she explained.
Throughout Joey’s post-surgery recovery, he feels incredibly nauseated every time he eats something that contains protein (even though he’s supposed to be consuming protein as part of his recovery). He also experiences nausea if he does too much physical activity, which happens on occasion.
“I sent her a video of him dry heaving into an emesis bag in the middle of physical therapy. Now, one of his doctors asked us to record his PT so they can see the progression of him not feeling well to hopefully make some adjustments, so I didn’t take this video just to send to Karla, but to me, it seemed like solid proof since she was asking for it. She said, ‘What in the world? I have emetophobia (I didn’t know this) and this just triggered me so bad. I hope you’re happy with yourself. I feel like I’ve been traumatized. I said, ‘So, now you have 10 more dollars to process this trauma in therapy,'” she shared.
In her view, all she did was provide Karla with the solid proof that she was requesting. Since she had been so anxious, overwhelmed, and tired lately, she acknowledged that she was a bit blunt toward Karla, and she currently has no patience for rudeness, but she doesn’t know if she went too far with her response to Karla.
What would you have done if you were in her shoes?
