Have you always dreamed of tying the knot in your favorite metropolitan city?

While many couples plan to get married in more rural places filled with nature, sometimes nothing feels as glamorous as getting married in a great city.

However, as wonderful as city weddings can be, they’re usually much more expensive and complicated to plan than other weddings. So, if you’re considering getting married in a big city, here are some tips to keep in mind throughout the wedding planning process.

Make a thorough budget

Every couple should sit down and create a budget for their wedding, no matter what kind of location they’re looking at. However, for city weddings, this is especially important. Knowing your budget and financial limits in advance will help prevent you from becoming upset when you start falling in love with city wedding plans that you can’t afford. Get the budget over with, then see what you can do!

Look into indoor spaces

While getting married outside in a city surrounded by pretty views may sound ideal, when you get married outside in the city, you risk dealing with major disruptions during your wedding ceremony. There’s a good chance some disrupting noises will go off, or tourists and pedestrians will get too close, etc.

So, when planning your city wedding, if you don’t want to risk any distractions during the ceremony, try looking for some great indoor spaces that still offer a nice view from some windows.

Be prepared to share your venue

With certain cities like New York being a big place for weddings during peak wedding season, there’s a good chance your wedding won’t be the only one happening in the city that day. Your wedding may even be booked alongside someone else’s wedding in the same venue on the same day.

Now, of course, that doesn’t mean you have to share the same exact room with another couple’s wedding, but just be prepared for vendors and venues to be booked up or spread thin.

Be wary of parking

While getting married in a city may sound accessible because of public transportation, many of your wedding guests may have to drive in from outside the city, so you should be courteous and make sure you choose a venue that has decent parking options for your guests.

Provide your guests with information about a nearby garage, book ride shares, and see if there’s a good area for street parking to refer them to.

Have an open mind

One of the best parts about getting married in a city is the diversity of venue and food vendor options. Many people tend to have a very specific vision for city weddings but try your best to have an open mind. If the venue you want doesn’t have space for you, don’t freak out! Do some research and look into places you hadn’t considered before.

When getting married in a city, you have a lot of venues and vendors to choose from. So have some fun and do some exploring before settling on a spot!

While they may be a bit more stressful to plan, as long as you stay present in the moment, know your limits, and keep an open mind, your city wedding will have the potential to make a lasting impact on you and your guests.
