This young woman became close with her friend Amy back when they were just teens. Although they attended separate high schools and lived in different towns, they spent every weekend over the summer together.

When Amy was that young, she was super high-maintenance and dated a ton of guys. Amy would jump into a relationship, only to have it fizzle out after a couple of months. Then, a week after her breakup, she would find a new guy to interest her.

As for her, she went on some dates, but not at the volume that Amy did. She says she was attractive, but she was a girl-next-door kind of girl.

Amy did end up dating one of her best friends from high school named Tommy, but they were over and done with after only two months. Their breakup went well, though, and they decided to stay friends after that.

Then, when it came time for college, she and Amy stopped being as close as they used to be. So, you can imagine her surprise when Amy sent her an invitation to her wedding.

“I was happy for her and flattered to be invited,” she explained. “The invitation had a plus-one. I wasn’t dating anyone at the time and suspected I wouldn’t know anyone other than her parents and Lisa, so I asked Tommy, who I was still friends with, to be my date.”

“He vaguely remembered her but was happy for her and sincerely looking forward to attending. I sent off my RSVP with his name as my guest.”

The day of Amy’s wedding arrived, and she and Tommy were mingling at the reception when they decided to say hello to Amy.

They congratulated Amy and her brand-new husband, but Amy shot them an icy look and gave them both incredibly awkward hugs before dismissing them.

She and Tommy stood there, full of confusion over how Amy had reacted to them. They also couldn’t help but feel offended by how rude she was to them.

She tried to tell herself that Amy had a full plate that day as a bride, so perhaps that’s why she had acted so off with them.

However, she attempted to speak to Amy a couple of different times as the reception wore on, but Amy completely avoided her.

“I called her a few days later, raving about the wedding and how gorgeous she looked,” she said. “I never heard from her again, not even a thank you card for my gift.”

A couple of months passed after Amy’s wedding, and she ended up running into their mutual friend Lisa.

She caught up with Lisa briefly before asking about Amy and how she was doing. Well, after the wedding, Amy had said some nasty things to say about her.

“Evidently, Amy was telling everyone how I deliberately tried to ruin her wedding by bringing one of her ex-boyfriends as a date because I was jealous,” she continued.

“Lisa stood up for me, but Amy didn’t want to hear it. I called Amy, but it went to voicemail. I left a message and apologized, stating that I didn’t think bringing Tommy was a problem because they dated for two months back in high school.”

“I reminded her that she and him were friends after the breakup. I honestly didn’t think she’d even remember him. She never responded.”

15 years have since elapsed after the wedding, and she has seen Amy a few times as the years wore on.

Every single time she encountered Amy, Amy would address how upset she still was about her bringing Tommy as a plus-one to the wedding.

She would always say sorry to Amy and tell her what her intention really was with inviting Tommy. 6 years have gone by since she last saw Amy, but then she unexpectedly saw her a week ago.

“I ran into her last week and was hit with a bitter, “You know, after all these years, I still can’t understand why you did that to me,” she continued.

“It was as if I had never apologized or explained myself any of the other times. She’s still married to the same guy and has a couple of kids, but she can’t seem to get past it.”

She’s left wondering if it really was so awful of her to invite Tommy to Amy’s wedding, and perhaps she can’t see that.
