She Asked Her Sister-In-Law To Buy Perfume For Her Mom While On Vacation, But She’s Trying To Make Her Pay More Than It Actually Cost

This 26-year-old woman has a sister-in-law the same age as her who is currently vacationing in Morroco.

Her mom asked if she could reach out to her sister-in-law to see if she could buy some perfume while on vacation, and after her sister-in-law returned, her mom would reimburse her.

She did reach out to her sister-in-law to see if this was alright, and her sister-in-law said she could completely do this.

“We kept in touch during her vacation, and she constantly remarked how much cheaper everything was there compared to here, such as restaurants, hair salons, etc.,” she explained.

“She goes perfume shopping and sends me a couple of pictures and videos, which I showed my mom. My mom decided on one, and I told my SIL.”

“Now, my mistake, I didn’t ask her right then and there how much it was, but I thought, how much could it possibly be? At most $40-$50.”

A couple of days afterward, she questioned her sister-in-law about how much the perfume cost before adding that her mom would like a second one.

She was floored when her sister-in-law said the one she already picked up cost $120, and the second one her mom was eyeing would be $100.

She couldn’t believe the price was correct, since that is how much perfume costs where they are from.

She also was suspicious that her sister-in-law had been going on and on about how every single thing in Morrocco is so cheap.

Additionally, she admits she should have asked her sister-in-law to give her the price of the perfume before telling her to just purchase it.

“My husband has frequently vacationed in Morocco and briefly lived there, so when I told him, he immediately said she’s lying,” she continued.

“I was upset, and I decided to do a little digging; [it] turns out both of them respectively cost about $45 or less. I still assumed the best and said hey, seems like you got scammed by the store owner.”

“She starts rambling about how she’s so shocked and upset at the salesperson, and it’s okay because she never intended to take the money from my mom as it was a gift. In my husband’s culture, you never disclose the cost of something if it’s intended as a gift, so I knew she was lying.”

Her sister-in-law is set to return today, and she happened to see that her sister-in-law followed the specific perfume shop she bought everything from on social media.

She can tell it’s the same store due to the photos of the perfume her sister-in-law already sent to her.

She took things a step further and found the store’s website to look up the price of the perfume. Well, it’s on sale to the tune of $29.

She’s super disappointed in her sister-in-law because she drops anything to help when she needs it, and she checks up on her all the time, as she’s currently encountering marital problems.

“Last year (2023), I was also the first one to wish her a happy birthday and sent a very thoughtful gift,” she added.

“Well, she forgot both of my daughter’s birthdays and wished me ‘Happy Birthday’ a month late, on the wrong day. Kind of shows what kind of person she is.”

She has a few ways to handle things: confront her sister-in-law about the inflated price or simply refuse to accept the perfume.

Do you think she should pick one of those options or do something else?
