This man has two daughters, who are 24 and 16-years-old. But, there’s been some tension between him and his youngest ever since she asked to go to a concert, and he refused to allow it.

For some context, the concert is four hours away from their house, and his daughter would have to stay the night alone in another city before traveling back the following day.

There would also be no parents or adults with his daughter and her friends, and he’s not able to accompany the teens since he has to attend a wedding on the same day.

So, he turned down his daughter’s concert plans for various reasons. First of all, she only got her license one week ago, and he doesn’t think she’s ready to take on a four-hour car ride.

Secondly, his daughter and her friends planned to leave at 3:30 p.m., meaning they would arrive at the concert between 7:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. And he simply doesn’t think it’s a good idea for his daughter to drive a long way in the dark.

“It’s also snowy and cold outside, and it’s dangerous for anyone, especially an inexperienced 16-year-old, to drive so far,” he added.

“And I feel uncomfortable letting her stay in a hotel room with no supervision.”

Due to all of these factors, he wound up telling his daughter no. As you can probably imagine, though, she didn’t take it very well.

His daughter started crying and claiming that all of her friends were going. She also promised that she would be on her best behavior.

Then, when he refused to budge, she started to get angry and basically accused him of being a hypocrite since he let his oldest daughter travel to Europe last year at 23 years old.

“But I told her I let [my eldest] go because she’s an adult, and she paid for it herself. I told her that when she becomes 18, she can do whatever she wants,” he explained.

Still, his daughter kept claiming that it was unfair since all of her friends were going alone, too.

So, left with no other options, he decided to reach out to his eldest daughter to see if she could help. More specifically, he gave his eldest daughter a call and asked if she’d be willing to take her younger sister to the concert.

“She agreed, and I thought the problem was solved,” he recalled.

Well, his youngest didn’t like that solution and was still angry. Plus, she even accused him of being too overprotective.

And now, he’s been left wondering if refusing to let the teen go to the concert is really so unreasonable or not.

Do you agree that driving four hours away and staying overnight in a hotel alone isn’t appropriate for a 16-year-old? Would you have handled this situation any differently or not?
