This man and his friend, Carl, have known each other for 25 years, and they’re like brothers. When they were children, their parents were also close friends.

They went to the same high school and then attended the same university, often discussing how great it would be to work at the same company after graduation.

During college, Carl met his now-wife. Unfortunately, he hated Carl’s wife from the moment he was introduced to her.

She was among the most pompous, conceited, selfish people he’s ever met. However, since she seemed to make Carl happy, he kept his thoughts to himself.

Eventually, Carl told him he was going to propose to her, and he pretended to be thrilled for him even though he was unsure if this was the right woman for Carl.

He clarified that he was never envious of Carl’s relationship, adding that he was always thrilled for Carl when he dated other women.

In hindsight, he thinks many of Carl’s previous girlfriends would have been better options for a wife than the woman he married.

He couldn’t quite put his finger on it, but he just had a gut feeling that the woman Carl was going to propose to wasn’t trustworthy.

On Carl’s wedding day, he was the best man, and the ceremony and reception went smoothly. He surprised Carl with a slideshow of photos from when they met as children until recent times, with hilarious captions underneath the photos.

Sadly, Carl’s marriage wasn’t blissful for long. Two months after the honeymoon, he found out that his wife was having an affair after he stumbled across some incriminating security camera footage.

The word spread and tons of people got involved. Carl’s parents were furious with his wife, and her parents pleaded with him to forgive her for her mistake.

Carl’s friends, whom he was also friends with, were conflicted about what Carl should do, and everyone was weighing in.

“The only one who didn’t say anything was me because I never liked her since the first time I saw her, but knowing our close relationship, I didn’t want to influence him in any way,” he said.

In his view, Carl should be the one to decide on his own what to do in response to his wife’s infidelity.

Then, two weeks ago, the doorbell rang at the house he shared with his girlfriend. When he answered the door, Carl was standing there and requested to stay with him and his girlfriend for a while. He agreed, and Carl sobbed the entire first day of his stay.

It was so stunning to witness Carl so heartbroken that he almost didn’t recognize the man before him.

Normally, Carl isn’t scared of anything, and he’s always goofing around and playing pranks on people.

Seeing such a happy, brave person so utterly broken was a shock. At first, Carl was grateful that he hadn’t offered his opinion on what he should do. But a week into Carl’s stay, he requested his honest thoughts on the ordeal.

“So, I replied to him sincerely and told him not to forgive her because a cheater will always be a cheater and that I, personally, don’t believe in redemption,” he explained.

After that, he expressed to Carl that despite what he thinks, Carl has to be the one to decide how to move forward with his wife, saying that he should go with his gut.

He told Carl that he would be supportive of whatever choice he made, and as his friend of 25 years, he would be there no matter what.

During this conversation, Carl was sobbing, and they ended their talk with a long hug. Carl calmed down and thanked him for the hospitality and “tolerating his ‘drama.'”

He assured Carl that he could stay at his place again if needed. Carl stayed at his house for a week before deciding to file for divorce from his wife.

“After talking with me, he realized what his values and principles were and decided to follow them,” he shared.

Later, Carl reached out to a lawyer and kicked his wife out of his home, which infuriated his wife’s parents and some friends, who were upset that Carl filed for divorce after asking him for advice.

But he doesn’t think he’s to blame because Carl wanted his honest input, which he gave. For most of the ordeal, he didn’t provide his thoughts and only gave Carl his perspective when asked because he didn’t think it was his business to weigh in with unsolicited advice.

Do you think he did anything wrong?
