This 16-year-old girl’s parents got a divorce before she was born. When she was 5, her father married Bri, who had a daughter from a previous relationship named Misty, now 16-years-old. For most of their childhood, she and Misty were best friends.

However, when they were 14, they grew apart and had separate groups of friends. They still got along and spent time together but weren’t as close as they used to be.

Not long ago, Misty found out that she was pregnant with her ex-boyfriend’s child. Initially, her father and Bri were stunned and furious when they heard the news.

“They said they would help support her. Her friend group dropped her, and she got depressed. So, my parents asked if she could hang out with me and my friends,” she said.

She agreed, and once Misty was included in her group of her friends, her mental health seemed to improve.

But as Misty’s pregnancy continued, her emotions became more unpredictable. Misty could be perfectly content one moment and then pouty the next.

She and her friends acknowledged that this was due to Misty’s hormones, so they did their best to empathize with her.

“Then, she started getting clingy with me and wanted to go everywhere with me. We went to the mall, and I wanted to try on some clothes,” she explained.

Misty got emotional when she realized that she wouldn’t be able to fit into the same outfits due to her pregnancy, and she began sobbing. It was so intense that she had to call her father to give them a ride home.

Later that night, once Misty was asleep, she explained to her father and Bri that she needed some space from Misty for a while.

In response, they asked her to show compassion and try to look at the situation from Misty’s perspective. Even though she was irritated, she tried to let it go.

Her friend’s birthday is next week, and she’s invited to the party. Misty asked if she was able to go, but she told her that she wasn’t invited, which caused Misty to get emotional and begin sobbing like she’d done at the mall.

When her father and Bri heard what was going on, they asked her to find out from her friend if Misty could go to the party, too.

If not, they suggested that she skip the party and hang out with Misty instead. She was mad and rejected their idea, and they repeated what they’d said earlier about how she needed to see Misty’s perspective.

“I just had enough and said if I can’t go, then I was going to move to my cousin’s home because I can’t stand being around Misty anymore,” she shared.

“They were furious because Misty heard, and they demanded I apologize to her, but I wouldn’t, and I said it is not my fault she got pregnant.”

After the argument, her father and Bri haven’t spoken to her, and Misty barely comes out of her bedroom. She feels a bit guilty and wonders if she crossed the line.

What advice would you give her?
