She Was Asked To Nanny For Her Neighbors While They Went On A 10-Day Cruise, But They Accused Her Of Ruining Their Plans On One Of Her Days Off And Tried To Publicly Tarnish Her Babysitting Reputation Online

So often, we hear about families having problems with their babysitter. But sometimes, the tables turn, and babysitters have problems with the families they work for.
One teenager recently had to defend herself after a couple she babysat for tried tarnishing her reputation because their plans got mixed up when she babysat for them on a cruise.
She’s 17-years-old and has been working as a nanny for her neighbors. A few months ago, they invited her to babysit for them while their family enjoyed a 10-day cruise to the Caribbean.
“The deal was pretty simple,” she explained.
“It was ten days at an all-inclusive resort. I would share a room with the kids and take care of them for seven days and nights. In return, I got $500 and three days to myself. The rooms were adjoining. My parents insisted I get everything in writing so there were no mistakes. Basically, we agreed that I would work two days and take one day off over and over.”
Before the cruise, she began planning and signing up for fun activities and excursions she could enjoy during her designated days off.
On her third cruise off day, she had plans to go scuba-diving, so she took off early that morning and enjoyed herself. But when she returned to her neighbors, they were mad at her for “leaving without warning.”
“I reminded them that we had a deal, and they said that they had met another couple there and were going golfing and that I screwed up their plans,” she said.
“I don’t know why they made plans on one of my free days. They were upset all the way home.”

After the cruise, she discovered that her neighbors posted bad reviews of her babysitting online, where they spread rumors that she was irresponsible. The post caught the attention of another family she babysat for, who confronted her.
She decided to defend herself and send out the written contract she and her neighbors had made, stating that she had three off days to do whatever she wanted on the cruise.
Soon enough, her other clients and family members backed her up and fought against the neighbors online.
“Now it’s a big deal, and everyone knows that they tried to change our deal without talking to me,” she added.
“Some of the other babysitters or their parents are now saying they won’t babysit for my neighbors anymore. I feel bad about it because they paid a lot for my vacation, and if they had asked, I probably would have switched my excursion to the last day.”
However, her neighbors were the ones who decided to make this issue public.
Should she feel bad that no one wants to babysit for her neighbors anymore, or did she do nothing wrong?
