Ryan was confused since that wasn’t what she had told him. Eventually, her mother went upstairs to find her, leaving him alone with her father. When she and her mother finally came downstairs, that was when things went south. She started yelling at her mom, demanding to know what she had said about her to Ryan.
Ryan told her that he had just been petting the dog. Thankfully, the situation blew over, and they moved on to dinner. Her parents had made steak tips, corn, and mashed potatoes. After dinner, they enjoyed some fancy cocktails.
Her mom was slightly tipsy and joked around with Ryan a little. She got mad and ran upstairs. At that point, Ryan was completely on edge. Her parents told him to check on her, and when he reached her room, she was hyperventilating. She took some of her medication to calm herself down.
They put on a movie, and she passed out immediately. He also fell asleep after a while. When he woke up, she saw her sitting in front of her vanity.
At first, he wasn’t sure if it was her because the person’s hair was black and his date’s hair was blonde. But then, he saw her face in the mirror and assumed she must be playing around with wigs.
However, she turned to him and introduced herself as Elayne, saying that the other girl would be back later.
Ryan couldn’t figure out what was going on and thought that she must have an identical twin, but Elayne told him she was an only child.
He quickly ordered an Uber, and as he was waiting for his ride, the mother explained that her daughter had to leave medical school after an episode that led to her being diagnosed with dissociative identity disorder. Looking back, he realized that inviting him to meet the parents so early on was a red flag.
