After hearing how upset his wife was, he went over to the dinner table and scolded his in-laws for their behavior, particularly his mother-in-law.
During his rant, he said if he could have it his way, he and his wife would move with their daughter to New Jersey, where his family lives. He then said that since that isn’t possible, they’ll continue living in Florida and make the best decisions for themselves and their daughter.
“Yesterday, my mother-in-law called my wife into work, so she packed up our daughter and went in. After having my wife plan some six-week event that starts at the end of June, she started harassing my wife. She said I insulted her at her table in her home. My father-in-law called me impulsive,” he shared.
His in-laws’ comments were so severe that after his wife arrived home, she burst into tears, which was heartbreaking for him to see. He was furious that his in-laws upset his wife so deeply. After thinking it over, he decided he and his daughter would no longer go to dinners with his in-laws.
He left the group chats with his in-laws and removed himself from his in-laws’ Life360 so they could no longer see his location. While he did all this without discussing his feelings with his in-laws, he didn’t want to talk to them. He’s understandably angry and thinks their actions have been gross.
Admittedly, he’s used colorful language while ranting about his mother-in-law in conversations with his wife. He assured his wife that he wouldn’t make decisions she wasn’t happy with, but he clarified that he never wanted to live in her parents’ neighborhood, especially after how they’ve treated them.
Even though he feels like a jerk, he still stands by his choice to cut them out of his life.
What advice would you give him?
