17 years ago, when she was back in high school, this 33-year-old woman started dating her husband.

In her senior year, she ended up getting pregnant, and then they welcomed their daughter into the world.

Three years after their daughter was born, they had their son. When their son was a couple of months old, she learned that her husband had been cheating on her throughout her whole pregnancy.

Not only that, but the girl her husband was cheating with said she was pregnant, too, and her husband was the father. She grabbed the kids and went to go stay with her parents.

“He cried and begged me not to leave him,” she explained. “He insisted that the baby couldn’t be his.”

“Mind you, he didn’t admit to cheating ’til I literally read the message from the girl out loud to him. I was young, in college with no job and 2 kids. Trusted adults told me being a single mom would be way worse than staying with him.”

“So I went back and convinced myself that even though he lied about everything else, he told the truth that the baby couldn’t be his. I was going through postpartum depression, and it was all I could do to keep my mental health intact.”

A couple of years after she took her husband back, they moved somewhere new and very far away, so she actually forgot about the cheating incident.

But last week, she was back in their hometown, visiting her family, and she had her kids with her, but her husband didn’t come along for the trip.

She was at a nearby lake one day when a child who looked like her 12-year-old son’s twin walked by. She was just about to call the boy before it dawned on her that it wasn’t her son after all.

“I look up on the shore and see a woman who looks like the girl he cheated with,” she said. “Surely… I must be tripping, but I know her name and the kid’s name.”

“I decided to just listen, and sure enough, I hear both of them called by their names.”

She was sick to her stomach as she left the lake, trying her best to hold herself together. She instantly told her mom about the little boy who looked like her son, and her mom mentioned that since the affair happened 12 years ago at this rate, she should let it go and quit thinking about it.

As for her brother, he believes she should tell her husband about what she saw at the lake. She has returned home from her trip and has no idea what she should do.

She honestly isn’t sure what she wants from her husband. She would like him to take responsibility for the boy, who clearly is his son; there’s no denying that.

She also might want her kids to have a relationship with their half-brother at some point in time, even if that’s not right now.

Over the years, she’s grown to convince herself that all men cheat and she should suck it up in order to remain in her marriage.

She also feels like she’s redeeming herself from being a teen mom by staying with her husband, so she admits there’s a lot for her to work through at the moment.

What advice do you have for her?
