When your mother-in-law says she wants to bond, you don’t expect it to turn into a fight for your survival. TikToker Sherry Kuehl (@snarkyinthesuburbs) is sharing a jaw-dropping tale about a newlywed woman with a horrible mother-in-law who tried to strand her in a foreign country.

A young woman was married for less than six months, but she had been having problems with her mother-in-law since before the wedding.

Suddenly, out of nowhere, her mother-in-law reached out to her and invited her on a trip to her home country, so she could meet all the relatives.

The new bride was excited but a little nervous because she hadn’t really spent a lot of time alone with her mother-in-law. Her husband was thrilled by the idea, so she bought a plane ticket. Her mother-in-law grew up in a rural area, so the journey was quite long and arduous.

“You know, it’s not like you land at the airport and get an Uber,” Sherry said. “It takes some time to get there. It is also in an area where the daughter-in-law does not speak the language at all.”

During the first night of the trip, they stayed in a rented room in someone’s home. They were exhausted from traveling, and it was late at night, so they both crashed.

But when the daughter-in-law woke up in the morning, her mother-in-law was nowhere to be found. All traces of her, including her luggage, had vanished.

Her own luggage was also gone, along with her purse, passport, and phone. The only thing she had were the pajamas she was wearing and her shoes.

She didn’t speak the language, so she didn’t know what was going on. A million thoughts ran through her head, such as a robbery or a kidnapping.

She was terrified, but she still had her Apple Watch on, so she decided to try and find her phone at the very least. The internet out there was pretty weak, but she was determined to track it down.

Her watch led her to the door of a house. She knocked on the door, and the person who answered it was her mother-in-law.

Her mother-in-law made up this whole story about how she had been drunk, and she didn’t want her to harm herself. That’s why she took everything, to prevent someone from taking advantage of her.

However, the daughter-in-law wasn’t buying it. She demanded that her mother-in-law return her belongings, and then she left.

“She’s scared; she doesn’t really know where she is,” Shelly explained. “She’s in this very small town. She doesn’t know this country at all, but she’s smart. She didn’t panic.”

She spotted a school and went over there in the hopes of better internet and that someone knew English. Luckily, a woman at the school spoke English and let her charge her phone. She drew a map for her and helped direct her to transportation.

So, the daughter-in-law managed to catch a train and get herself back home. In between all this, she called her husband and told her what happened in tears.

Her husband was extremely angry at his mother. He picked up his wife from the airport and begged her for forgiveness. She forgave him on the condition that she never had to see any of his family members again, and he agreed.

The mother-in-law maintained her story that she was drunk. Her son accused her of setting his wife up to be killed. After that, they never spoke to her again.
