For over a year, TikToker Lex (@lexinwonderland) has been living in Australia with her family. She and her family are originally Americans, and now, she’s discussing what she misses about living in America now that they are Australian residents. Her list is ranked from fifth to first place.

“Coming in at number five is, I miss how the post will pick up your outgoing mail from your home, from your mailbox in the States,” said Lex.

“That isn’t just like a Hollywood thing that actually happens, and it’s quite convenient, I’ll be honest.”

Number four: she misses the faster Wi-Fi speeds in America, even though Australia invented Wi-Fi. Sometimes, she notices that the Wi-Fi is actually faster when she’s away from her home for some reason.

Number three: air travel is more convenient when flying to places from the States, specifically from Houston, Texas, which is where Lex and her family are from.

“Houston is definitely a hub for getting around the country and around internationally as well,” Lex said.

“Being on this side of the world, of course, gets you closer than we would be to some parts of the world, leaving from the States. But generally speaking, I have noticed it is easier in terms of flight time to get from place to place, leaving from the States.”

The number two spot goes to American highways. Lex misses how big the highways are in the States because they offer more room.

In Houston, the highways can consist of six lanes or more, while in Brisbane, where she currently lives, the lanes are tighter. They also take back roads or go through subdivisions to reach their destination more often than highways.

And finally, the thing that she misses the most from the States is Mexican food. In Australia, Mexican food is not very common due to a smaller Mexican immigrant population. Lex frequently craves enchiladas and a plate full of rice and beans.

“If I knew we were staying here long-term, I would be tempted to open up my own little Mexican restaurant because I am half-Mexican,” she said. “The thought has crossed my mind.”

Overall, she still loves living in Australia. Many of her followers could not agree more and joined in on the conversation in the comments section.

“I agree, the highways are behind the times here in our great country, and getting a flight to wherever you want can sometimes pose some challenges…but for me, the drive nearly always opens my eyes on how lucky we are to have such beauty on our doorstep,” commented one user.

“My daughter lives in Brisbane, too. She comes home for a month each year. The number of quesadillas she orders while home is insane,” wrote another.

“First time I took my son overseas, he could not believe that close to 5 hours into our trip, and we still hadn’t left Australian airspace. You’re not wrong. It takes forever to get anywhere other than Asia from Australia, and even to an Asian destination. Most of your trip is flying over Australia if you’re coming from the southeast,” added a third.
