Once upon a time, TikToker Austin (@austingroo) was madly in love with this woman and decided that he wanted to make her his wife.

So, they planned the wedding and made invitations, but then life got in the way and they weren’t able to do the wedding as they had planned.

On the night that they were supposed to have the wedding, they got to talking and agreed to get married that night anyway, just without all the extra stuff.

They had already filed for their marriage license and filled out all the paperwork, so everything was ready for them. All they had to do was take the leap.

At the time, Austin thought it was the sweetest and greatest idea ever. He was incredibly excited about it. His dad was a preacher, so he gave him a call at 10:30 p.m., telling him that they were getting married.

It was the kind of impulsive, heartfelt decision that you only make when you’re deeply in love.

“So, we get her dad out, get him in the truck, and we drive out to my family’s property,” Austin recalled.

“Now, we’re in a field. My parents are both there; her dad’s there. And we say our vows right there and then in that field on our anniversary date, the date that we pick, the date that we wanted. It was like 11:45 at night.”

That was the story of how they got married, and he always considered it to be the most beautiful union. He loved to tell it to people.

But later, he learned that the woman he married didn’t see it that way.

One day, she confessed to him that she actually hated their story and was not a fan of how their wedding happened. As a result, he never told that story to people again.

“And that’s why it’s so important to be picky with who you choose to be with,” Austin said. “Because a lot of women out there would’ve loved that story, but unfortunately, that’s not the one I chose.”

While Austin’s intentions were pure and romantic, his story was a reminder that relationships are built on shared values and visions.

Several TikTok users took to the comments section to express heartbreak and admiration for his story.

“That’s so sad, actually. I would have loved that story!! There’s so much more to life than a fancy wedding,” commented one user.

“I’m definitely one [who] would have found that way more romantic than an actual wedding with a big guest list and big price tag. I’ve always loved the idea of eloping versus a wedding, though,” added another.

“That is one of the most romantic things I’ve heard. And I’m so freaking sorry that the experience wasn’t appreciated the way it should have been. Cheers to something so much better,” chimed in a third.
