Many childhood memories fade over time, but the ones that don’t tend to linger for a reason. When TikToker @briiiiiiib was a young girl, she used to spend a lot of time at her grandmother’s house.

People usually love being at their grandparents’ house because it’s a happy place with warm memories. Getting spoiled rotten is just a way of life there. Grandparents offer unconditional love and indulgent comforts like special goodies and treats.

But in @briiiiiiib’s case, she didn’t particularly like being at her grandmother’s place. It made her uncomfortable because something always seemed to be a little off.

Her grandmother knew that her house was haunted, but she never really told @briiiiiiib about it because she was too young at the time. Later, when she got older, she would learn that her grandmother was fully aware that a spirit was living in her house.

Her grandmother’s husband would get up early for work at around three in the morning, every morning like clockwork. After he left, @briiiiiiib would run up to her grandmother’s room, crawl into her bed, and sleep for the next few hours until sunrise. It was her safe zone, where fear was temporarily erased.

She didn’t like sleeping downstairs on the pullout couch in the living room because she would always hear something walking back and forth on the banister of the spiral staircase.

It also often felt as if something were peering over the banister. So, naturally, she did what any rational kid would do: refuse to look and sleep with her back facing the stairs like that would somehow make it go away.

One morning, she waited for her step-grandfather to leave for work as usual before sprinting upstairs to their bedroom. When she crawled into bed, her grandmother was sound asleep.

As she was lying in bed, she heard heavy footsteps walk with purpose toward the room. She was half-expecting her grandfather to come back in because he had forgotten something, but he was not the forgetful type.

“Mind you, my step-grandfather leaves on schedule,” she said. “He was a man of routine. He would pack everything he needed, and he would go.”

So, it definitely wasn’t him. The footsteps kept getting closer and closer. Then, they suddenly stopped. She did not hear any footsteps leaving or going back the way they came.

She stared at the door in a panic, bracing herself for someone or something to walk through the door, but it never did. To this day, she still thinks about that moment.

Looking back, it’s easy to try to explain it away, but she is certain that something walked right up to that door. Gut feelings don’t steer you wrong.
