New York City apartment horror stories are pretty common, but TikTok user London McBride (londonmcbridee) may have the scariest story of all. She is convinced there was a murderer living in her apartment.

About a year ago, London, an NYU student, was sitting on her couch with her roommates when they heard a scream, prompting them to call the police. However, the police couldn’t help as they didn’t know which apartment the scream came from.

As the week went on, London and her roommates began to hear screaming regularly. London called the police again and noticed other people in the building had been calling them too.

The TikTok user even included a video clip where the screams could be heard, and they were pretty unsettling. “We called the police at least 10 times,” London confessed.

London then contacted her super and other higher-ups in the building who could potentially get to the bottom of the screams, but no one offered help.

Instead, they asked for videos with time stamps so they could get a better idea of what was happening.

She began collecting videos of the screams, which grew louder and louder as the days went on. London learned that other NYU students lived in her building and lived on the other side of the apartment where the screaming was coming from.

They told London they’d hear him screaming, kicking, and pounding on things in the middle of the night. “One day in particular, it gets really bad,” London explained. They decided to call the police again despite not receiving help the other times.

London clarified that the walls of her apartment are very thin, which is why they could hear the screams so clearly. When the police came and knocked on the door, the man didn’t answer.

The police claimed he wasn’t home, but London was sure he was because she heard him enter his apartment and didn’t hear him leave. The fire department knocked down the door and quickly noted the unusual condition of his apartment.

The reason no one answered the door was that the neighbor escaped through his fire escape when he heard the police. However, once the police were inside, London quickly picked up on the scent of bleach.

“They said that his whole apartment was covered in blue tarps and cleaning supplies,” London revealed. She also included a photo she took from outside his window, showing the blue tarps.

The reveal terrified everyone in the building, so London invited the girls who lived next door to him into her apartment so they’d feel safer.

London then learned that the people above him had been calling the police, too, because bleach from his apartment was seeping into theirs.

The police ended up leaving since they couldn’t find the neighbor after he escaped. However, while London was talking to her neighbors in the lobby, the man came back and ran up to his apartment.

London called the police again to inform them that the man was back. “It takes them 45 minutes, but they eventually come back,” London confessed. “And they take him away in the ambulance.”

Unfortunately, this wasn’t the end, as the NYU students that London had met texted her later to say the man was back in his apartment. Lucky for her, summer break was approaching, and she would spend the next few months back home.

When she returned for the fall semester, he had moved out, and new people were living in his place. “We asked the building for compensation, and they tried raising our rent.”

London thought this was ridiculous and instead told them they should decrease her rent after what had happened.

Instead, they gave London and her roommates $200 gift cards to any place they wanted, which London called unhelpful. London accepted, but her building told her they would only give her a gift card to support small businesses.

“I also love supporting small businesses,” London admitted, “But we literally had a man murdering people in our building.”

She clarified that she doesn’t know that for sure, but makes that assumption based on what she knows of the situation.

“The least you can do is let me choose where this gift card’s money is going,” London said. After getting her frustration out, she revealed she still has no idea what happened, but it caused many people in her building to move out.

London wanted to reach out to her building to find out if they ever found out what happened, but isn’t sure if they’re allowed to tell her.

She concluded, “I hope that that guy got the help he needed [and I] hope that everyone is safe.”
