Within a week, TikToker Kaeli (@kaelihammer) had a brief fling with a guy that fizzled out. It started off very promising. They went out on a first date, and they got along well. They enjoyed food and drinks, and even hung out on a rooftop for a bit.
Then, he walked her to his car, which was parked nearby, and drove her home. They even shared a kiss at the end of the night. Overall, the chemistry was great.
The next week, they went on their second date at a rooftop bar in downtown Chicago. Again, the conversation was flowing, and they were on the same page with many different things.
“He was just a very good listener,” said Kaeli. “And I have a strong personality. I’m very direct. He took that really well, but he was also able to do that back to me. And he was just such a gentleman, opening my car door for me. He would kiss my hand when we held hands.”
That night, she went over to his place to hang out. She ended up sleeping there because she was too tired to go home. In the morning, he drove her back home, and they got breakfast together.
They made tentative plans to go out again in a few days. Kaeli was super excited. It felt like things were falling into place. She had finally met someone who checked all her boxes.
But after their breakfast together, she stopped hearing from him. She tried not to freak out because she knew he was with his friends for the weekend. By the end of the weekend, it was still radio silence.
“I’m just hyperaware when someone’s not messaging me when I’m talking to them, and I’ve been ghosted enough,” said Kaeli. “I try not to get in my head about it, but I do.”
She messaged him, saying that she wished he would check in a little more often. About 20 minutes later, he texted her to apologize.

He also explained that he ran into his ex-girlfriend while he was out watching the World Cup game.
They had an awkward conversation, but ultimately decided to get back together. This was an ex he had been broken up with for a year due to distance. Apparently, she was now back in town.
The news was upsetting and totally unexpected for Kaelin because she felt they had really clicked. She hadn’t had such a natural connection like that for so long.
“Also, I’d like to point out how he was in bed with me Friday morning and Thursday night and probably in bed with her by Friday night,” concluded Kaelin.
“Do you even change the sheets between us? No, you did not.”
