If you want an example of what not to do on a first date, TikToker Julie (@juliejulesleep) has got you covered with this story. A guy she matched with on a dating app invited her to dinner and booked a table for the two of them at a restaurant.

But when she got there, he told her that he had already eaten and was not ordering any food. He also said that he was really into fitness and did not drink.

“You invited me to a restaurant; you’re not going to eat or drink, and you’re making this poor waiter wait on us, so I asked him, you know, can I get a drink?” Julie recalled.

She went ahead and ordered some wine for herself, not really sure why she hadn’t gotten up and left yet. As if the food-related awkwardness wasn’t bad enough, the conversation somehow steered its way into judgment territory.

He proceeded to tell her that a lot of his friends have been married for a while and openly wondered why they weren’t pregnant, because to him, the purpose of marriage was all about having children.

That made Julie mentally check out, since what other people did or did not do in their marriages was none of their business.

The date kept spiraling. He also judged her for not attending church every Sunday, even though she was raised Catholic. He declared that he went to church every week and whoever he dated had to go to church as well.

He was a walking red flag, and Julie never saw him again after that.

The combination of inviting someone to dinner and refusing to eat, policing her lifestyle, and laying out rigid expectations on a first date had sent her running for her life.

Overall, Julie’s story struck a nerve with a handful of TikTok users, who were quick to validate her reaction in the comments section.

“I would have been like, I’m leaving. I need to go eat dinner,” commented one user.

“The people are asking you to tell the witness protection program of dating,” joked another.

“Several years ago, my friend and I were getting ready to hang out with a guy she knew, and she was trying to hook me up with him. He messaged that he already had a big lunch and wasn’t hungry. My friend looked at me and rolled her eyes. Anyway, we still went to [the] party with him. Long story short, he and I did not end up dating,” shared a third.

At the end of the day, having self-awareness and putting effort into dating matters greatly. If you’re going to invite someone out, at least meet them halfway, preferably over a meal.
