Recently, TikToker Randy James (@recyclingrandy) took a chance on a piece of unclaimed luggage and ended up uncovering valuable treasure: a collection of designer handbags.

“So, fun fact: did you know that you can purchase unclaimed luggage at airports for a small fee?” Randy began. “The only problem is that it’s like a box of chocolates—you never know what you’re going to get. It’s a mystery. So, you’re basically taking a risk and a gamble with a small purchase.”

He explains that there are two places where you want to get unclaimed luggage. Number one: the private sector. People who fly private planes are usually well-off, so if they leave their luggage behind, you know there must be some higher-end stuff.

Number two: customs. Occasionally, travelers returning from overseas might find that it’s too expensive for them to get their items back to the U.S. through customs. As a result, they abandon their belongings at customs.

In his video, Randy is unboxing unclaimed luggage he got from customs for $50, and he really hit the jackpot with this haul. First off, he used a pair of pliers to break the lock on the suitcase.

The first item he saw on top of the pile was a Gucci bag. It was a small clutch featuring a Mickey Mouse design and a shiny gold chain. Inside the bag, he found an empty Michael Kors wallet. The surprises kept on coming.

Next, he showed off a red Louis Vuitton bag with some signs of damage. Then, he came across a Gucci tote, and it had a Mickey Mouse pouch from Coach tucked inside.

He also pulled out less glamorous items from the tote, such as a random pink plastic spoon, a chain, and a couple of dental floss picks. The tote had a small rip on the handle.

Finally, he picked up a black Prada purse and a gray Gucci handbag in relatively good condition. By the end of the unboxing, he became the proud owner of seven designer purses for just $50, which is basically the price of a fast-food dinner nowadays.

Of course, many TikTok users immediately began debating over the authenticity of the bags in the comments section. Some offered practical advice for verifying the bags.

“The red one has wear that tells me it’s probably a dupe. Luxury leather doesn’t crack to show white underneath,” pointed out one user.

“They all look like street bags, which means they’re probably not real, but still a cool find because it could have been anything in the suitcase,” commented another.

“Find the serial number inside the bag. It will indicate whether the item is genuine and provide information about its origin and manufacturing date,” advised a third.

Whether the bags turn out to be authentic designer pieces or elaborate knock-offs, Randy’s investment of $50 was definitely worth it.
