If your in-laws had a kid that hurt your own child, would you step in to defend them while all the other adults acted like it was no big deal?
This man’s sister-in-law and her husband came to visit him and his wife for a month and a half. They live in Korea, and they brought their daughter and toddler son with them on the trip.
His wife’s nephew is wildly out of control, does whatever he pleases, and ignores his parents. When this kid does something bad, his parents attempt to speak to him, but it goes nowhere.
This kid just doesn’t care and laughs when people are upset by his actions. He’s not sure if this kid fails to understand right from wrong because nobody ever taught him, or if there’s more going on. This kid’s parents are trying really hard to get through to him, but it’s futile.
“I think boys need discipline and an understanding of actions and consequences at this age. Otherwise, they will go bananas,” he explained.
“One day, my 11-month-old crawled to him, and I was looking to see what was going to happen when no one was around except me. She sat in front of him, and all of a sudden, he punched her in the face.”
“To my surprise, instead of facing consequences, he got rewarded by his mom reading him a book upstairs. Of course, she explained that the baby is small and that it is bad to do that.”
This kid never gets any discipline. Later on, this kid was playing with a kitchen toy his 9-year-old has in their bedroom. His wife’s family relocated the toy to the living room for this kid to play with.
His 11-month-old daughter crawled over to him while he was using the kitchen toy and began playing alongside him. This kid didn’t feel like sharing and once more, punched his daughter right in the face!

He snatched the toy away from this kid and told him he didn’t get to have it anymore, which made the little boy burst into tears. His in-laws swooped in to take this kid outside to the playground to get him to calm back down.
“My wife confronted me, visibly frustrated. She said he is just a boy and that I do not understand how to raise 2 siblings of the same age. ‘Maybe I do not,’ I said, ‘but he should not have been rewarded for this behavior. Instead, he should have been disciplined,'” he continued.
“‘This is not your place,’ she said. I replied, ‘This is exactly my place. This is my house, my kitchen, and this is the second time he punched my daughter. His parents do not discipline him and instead reward him for this behavior, so I did it.’ Everyone heard this.”
“I created an uncomfortable environment because I said it out loud, but at the same time, I think their boy should start facing consequences for misbehavior. I have never raised a boy, so I might be utterly wrong, and yet my inner voice tells me that there is some truth to what I said. A boy has got to face consequences.”
He’s left wondering if he was wrong to take the toy away from his wife’s nephew after what this kid did to his daughter.
I’m failing to see why his wife finds it acceptable for their daughter to get punched in her face. His job as a dad is to protect his daughter, which he is doing, while his wife is failing miserably.
His wife’s taking the whole approach that boys will be boys is deplorable, and that’s exactly how horrible men get raised and released into society. His wife’s family is setting this little boy up to be a menace.
He should be outraged that his wife doesn’t consider their daughter worthy of protection.
