If your dad cheated on your mom, had an affair child, and expected you to help him keep this from your mom, would you be down to do that?
It was just in June of 2023 that this 23-year-old girl figured out that her 54-year-old dad has a secret child with another woman who is not her mom.
It was a complete accident how she found out about all of this. She borrowed her dad’s phone one day to make a call to someone when she noticed a message pop up from a woman named Karen.
The photo saved in her dad’s contact information for Karen pictured a little girl who looked like her dad’s clone. Later that night, she confronted her dad, who broke down and confessed everything to her. Her dad’s affair child is four.
“He begged me not to tell my mom (51F) and said he was handling it, that it was complicated, that Karen had agreed to keep things quiet, and that telling mom would destroy our family,” she explained.
“I was 20 years old sitting across from my father watching him cry, and I said okay. I kept that secret for three years.”
Throughout every single holiday and family dinner, she didn’t say a word. When her mom spoke about how much trust she had for her dad in front of her, she remained silent.
Keeping such a major secret negatively impacted her. She began therapy a year after learning of her dad’s affair child because she was suffering from so much anxiety.
Her therapist didn’t instruct her to tell anyone about the secret, but did question her about how long she planned on carrying such a burden that wasn’t hers to own.

Last month, her dad revealed to her that Karen was making threats about telling her mom of their affair and child, unless he began giving her more money.
Her dad expected her to help him cover up his mess, but she wasn’t interested in doing that. Two days after that conversation, she told her mom the truth, which crushed her.
“She is currently staying with her sister and has spoken to a divorce lawyer. My dad is furious and says I betrayed him and destroyed our family,” she continued.
“My younger brother (19M) says I should have stayed out of it. My therapist says I made the right call for my own mental health without telling me it was right or wrong. I genuinely do not know if I did the right thing or just the thing I could no longer avoid doing.”
She’s left wondering if she was wrong to tell her mom about what her dad did behind her back.
It was irresponsible and mean of her dad to rope her into all of this. Her dad is the one who ruined her family with his cheating; she didn’t do that at all. The only role she played was trying to be a good daughter to her dad when he didn’t even deserve that from her.
