ScanR Lets You Send Paper Faxes from Your Cell Phone

home main ScanR Lets You Send Paper Faxes from Your Cell Phone
Have you ever been out and needed to fax a paper document, but the only electronic device on you is your cell phone? It has happenned to me countless times, and usually results in me running home or heading to the nearest Kinkos. ScanR might be the solution to this pretty common inconvenience; it lets anyone with a 1.3 Megapixel or better,  fax documents via their cell phone. All you have to do is snap a picture of the document, e-mail it too doc@scanr.com, and put the fax number in the text body. ScanR will send you a confirmation text message once the fax has been sent. In case you are skeptical, they are currently offerring a free trial.

Unfortunately, many people don’t have a camera phone with a 1.3 megapixel camera. But higher megapixel camera phones are becoming more and more widespread, especially with Windows Mobile Handsets. Five years from now this sort of service will probably be as common place as receiving a fax by e-mail, but for the meantime this is a pretty a cool novelty to discover.

I came across this the other day (www.clicktoscan.com), it’s currently in Beta format, seems to work well, might be worth a look.

The service does exactly the same as ScanR with the added bonus of doing it all from your mobile phone handset. The image seems to be sharper as well. It’s ideal for when you’re on the move and need to fax or send an important document.

You can send scans directly to email addresses (no need for a PC) and it even lets you convert pictures taken on a camera phone into .pdf – pretty cool. Also great for getting a copy of notes on a whiteboard.
