Plantronics Voyager 6200 UC Bluetooth Headset Review – A Great Headset for Workers on the Go

Historically, we’ve found Plantronics‘ best products to be their office headsets — over-ear headphones with (or without!) boom mics that have noise cancellation and spectacular mics and audio quality for voices. Their best headsets have been designed for the worker who goes into the office and stays there until the workday is done. But, that describes the experience of fewer and fewer employees now. With more of us working outside the office (or never working in an office at all), there’s a need for headsets that still deliver the same call quality while becoming more lightweight and contending with far more background noise. The Plantronics Voyager 6200 UC Bluetooth headset, a neck-worn set of in-ear headphones, is made to fit that mold.

In one way, they’re more appealing than single-ear headsets like Plantronics’ own Voyager 3200 UC — plugging up both ears is naturally going to cut down on background noise, making it more practical to take calls while on the street. But, Plantronics is upping the ante with this headset — the Voyager 6200 UC has active noise cancellation, the same boom-less mic array as the great over-ear Voyager 8200 UC headset, and can even tell you when you’ve accidentally left mute on and are trying to speak in a call! It sounds like the best of both worlds, suitable for use in the office and on the street alike, and while it does end up being an excellent headset, it’s still a reminder that with smaller in-ear headphones, some compromises are unavoidable.

Plantronics – $300

The Good: Great audio quality for music and calls, solid battery life, comfortable, solid mic array for calls, gets loud enough to work well outside

The Bad: Active noise cancellation is largely ineffective, the neckband look might not be for everyone, really expensive, no IP rating for water or dust

Who it’s for: Anyone whose workplace extends past the office

The Short: Noisy streets, busy cafes, doesn’t matter — the Plantronics Voyager 6200 UC will make calls sound like they do in the office!
