She went to sleep, figuring Holly would have to come home that night, but when she awoke that wasn’t the case.
Now, Holly’s daughter was panicking. She called local hospitals, she spoke with her mom’s friends, but nobody had seen Holly. It was then that she called the police to report her mom as missing.
“Immediately following Simmons’ disappearance, her house on Cortez Trail was thoroughly examined for evidence,” the Texas Department of Public Safety said in a press release.
“Neighbors, coworkers, and associates were also interviewed by investigators.”

Although authorities tried to figure out where Holly had gone, they had no luck. After 2 years and 8 months went by, a local diver discovered a boat sitting in the bottom of a lake bed.
The diver was in Inks Lake when they noticed the boat, and after inspecting it further, they found a body inside of it. Someone had placed bags of cement on top of the body.
The Texas Department of Public Safety Dive Team went into the lake to recover the body, and it turned out to be Holly.
How had she ended up at the bottom of the lake? Her case went cold until this year, and her killer has finally been arrested.

On May 12th, 2021, Holly’s former landlord 57-year-old Jimmy Wolfenbarger was arrested and charged with her murder.
Jimmy was taken to the Lubbock County Detention Center, where he was later released on a $2 million dollar bond.
“Following a five-year investigation, Wolfenbarger was named a suspect,” the Texas Department of Public Safety said.
“Wolfenbarger, Simmons’ landlord, lived near her home in an RV park at the time. He often had disputes with Simmons regarding one of her two daughters.”
