10 Years Ago She Disappeared After Leaving Her House To Head To A Modeling Job And Sadly Her Remains Were Just Found

Colorado Springs, Colorado. It was October 9th, 2012, and 19-year-old Kara Nichols was living in a house in Colorado Springs on Mission Road, along with two of her roommates.

That day, Kara left her home and traveled to Denver for a modeling job. One of Kara’s friends picked her up to take her to Denver, but then she disappeared.

The final call that was made on Kara’s cellphone was the day she vanished, at 11:45 that evening.

Kara’s family reported Kara as missing 5 days after she left for Denver, and they spent the next decade trying to figure out what happened to Kara.

“Always loved, always missed,” Kara’s family wrote on a Facebook page dedicated to her.

“Someone robbed us of our beautiful daughter, someone knows what happened to you. There will be truth and justice someday.”

Although Kara’s family frequently posted that new leads or tips came in as the years went by, Kara’s case grew cold.

In the middle of last month, the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office had a review done on Kara’s case, and they were able to come up with a witness.

After interviewing this person, the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office was able to obtain “critical information” from them that ended up generating a lead they never had before.

“Based on that lead, on February 7, 2022, a search warrant was obtained and a team of El Paso County Sheriff’s Office Detectives and Specialists alongside the Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI) Evidence Response Team were deployed to the 9600 block of Burgess Road,” the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office explained in a statement.

“That search led to the recovery of female human remains. On February 8, 2022, the El Paso County Coroner’s Office has tentatively identified the victim as Kara Nichols.”

“Joel Hollendorfer was arrested and booked into the El Paso County Jail on charges of 2nd Degree Murder and Tampering with Physical Evidence.”

The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office continued to say that the FBI helped to solve Kara’s case and that they chased down leads as far away as Europe.

Sadly, Kara’s family confirmed the news of her death on Facebook, writing, “It is with profound sadness and a heavy heart, that we share that we were informed yesterday by authorities, that our beautiful daughter’s remains were found and a suspect has been arrested in the case.”

If you have any information related to Kara’s case, the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office is asking that you call their tip line at 719.520.6666.
