A woman and her husband welcomed their first child, Matt, into the world when they were just seventeen years old.

And at the time, the young couple was stuck in a difficult financial situation that only began to improve once Matt turned nine years old.

Now, though, she and her husband have both accepted well-paying jobs and have been able to afford to purchase a large home with some luxurious amenities.

They have also had two more children, an eight-year-old son, and a five-year-old daughter, along with Matt– who is now eighteen years old.

The couple’s jobs do require them to be out of the home often, though. So, she and her husband also hired a forty-five-year-old nanny named May to help take care of their younger children.

Nonetheless, this stark lifestyle change throughout Matt’s life has caused her to notice some concerning personality changes in her son.

She realized that after Matt was placed into an affluent private school around the age of ten, he began to connect with other, more privileged children, who perhaps influenced her son’s personality.

“The contact with the other teenagers brought out a selfish and elitist side of him,” she explained.

“And we tried our best to try and improve it, but with the onset of adolescence and stubbornness, it just seemed to get worse.”

Although once Matt reached the age of sixteen, she and her husband had an idea to help humble their son a bit.

They decided that he would get a part-time job in order to begin taking some financial responsibility for himself. And for a short time, it worked.

“That seemed to give him a reality check as we cut our support on his perks,” she said.

Nonetheless, following the pandemic, her son’s entitled behavior returned– particularly when she tried to plan a post-pandemic vacation and decided to bring her nanny, May, along.

Essentially, she decided that instead of giving May an at-home break while they vacationed, she would bring May and May’s son along.

Moreover, she would pay for all of her expenses– allowing May to just vacation with her own son.

But then, one day, while she was planning to buy everyone’s plane tickets, Matt overheard his mother’s plans for May and her son’s seats.

“I was planning to pay for a first class seat for May and her son for her to enjoy the flight as we did,” she said.

“Then, he asked why we should do this– and that since we were already paying for everything, we should let May fly economy if she could not afford first class.”

Matt’s rude comment completely shocked her, and she told her son how impolite it was to say that.

She also emphasized how important May is to their family after putting up with all of the children and said it was the least their family could do for her.

Still, Matt was not hearing it and stood his ground. So, the mom felt she had no choice but to discipline her son by taking something he valued away.

She ended up telling Matt that he would be getting an economy seat and that if he really wanted first class, he could pay for the upgrade because his parents would not be paying for it.

After she said that, though, Matt simply nodded along and believed his mom was joking. She was dead serious, though, and for months warned her son that he would not be flying first class with the rest of his family.

Then, on the day of the trip, he apparently looked like a “shocked Pikachu” when he realized she had been telling the truth the entire time.  Then, Matt proceeded to throw a full-on tantrum in the middle of the airport and complained that he would be stuck on a ten-hour flight in an uncomfortable seat.

Nonetheless, she did not care. She simply told her son that he had six months to pony up and pay his own way if he wanted extra perks. And since he didn’t, she told Matt to get it together.

Even though the mom felt good about her parenting decision, though, she could tell that Matt was enraged the entire trip.

And despite her and her husband not feeling bad, her parents later said they believed she went too far and ruined the trip for her son. So now, she has been left wondering if taking away the first class ticket was a good parenting move or if she overreacted.

How would you have handled your son’s entitled behavior if he acted this way? Was she too lenient or too harsh? Did Matt deserve to have more taken away?
