Her Boyfriend Pays For Everything In Their Relationship, And She’s Explaining What She Brings To The Table To Make It Work

Imagine your significant other paying for everything in your relationship. For most couples, this isn’t the case. The bills are shared so that one person isn’t financially responsible for two. But what TikToker @realhannahchan calls “Polarisation” is the exact opposite of this.

Although this practice in a relationship can be somewhat old-fashioned, Hannah has a different take on how this works in their relationship.

“Instead of going 50/50 on everything, we go 100/100 on our respective roles,” she said. “We both run our own businesses, so we both make money.”

Hannah and her boyfriend implement “Polarisation” by splitting up different aspects of their relationship, although at first, it may seem that her boyfriend pays for more than she does.

“We mainly spend his money, so I have his bank attached to my Apple Pay,” she said. “He pays 100% of the rent and the bills.”

Some may think that she’s mooching off of his success since he pays the bills and for all of their dates. But Hannah claims that she had to pay when she lived on her own.

“Before anyone calls me like a gold digger or says that I’m dependent on him, I have lived in this apartment for two years before him, and I’ve paid 100% for myself,” she said.

By the way that Hannah explains this, the structure of their relationship resembles the homemaking “rules” of the 1950s, where the woman is the housewife, and the man makes money. Outsiders who don’t understand “Polarisation” may think the same.

But Hannah’s relationship is structured around what she believes are “clear masculine feminine dynamic[s]” since they both “believe in the man being the provider of the relationship.”

Since her boyfriend is financially responsible for both of them, what does she contribute to their relationship? The answer lies in the household.

“Cooking, cleaning, making the house look pretty, so that’s almost all on me,” she said. “With cleaning, we outsource it to a cleaner and also laundry as well, but with cooking, I cook a lot of the time, or we just order in.”

Hannah explained how she’s responsible for decorating their home and making design changes, even though she doesn’t pay.

“The most important thing is that both of you feel like you’re getting equal value exchange and that both people are putting in equal effort,” she said.

But Hannah got criticism from viewers, saying that she doesn’t contribute an equal amount if she’s not paying.

“Honestly, she isn’t bringing anything to the relationship. Even outsourcing the cleaning and ordering food,” one commenter wrote.

Another said, “Where is the equal value? Because all I heard is his money, his bank, and he pays.”

She followed up in a second video explaining more about her role as well as the ways that women can contribute to a relationship like hers.

“Men and women don’t value the same currencies,” she said. “What he gets out of the relationship is not financial.”

She says that her role is to provide emotional support to her boyfriend and to be “that feminine touch in a relationship.”

“The last thing that you want when you get home is a woman who also brings that masculine energy, she’s nagging, she’s emotionally difficult to deal with, she’s stressing you out,” she said. “He’s looking for a woman who, when he comes home, helps him relax.”

Aside from being emotionally supportive, she lists other things that a man wants, like “intellectual stimulation” so that “you’re not just a pretty face.”

After her explanation, their choice of relationship still may seem outdated. But as one commenter wrote, “If it works for both of you, then perfect.”
