If you’ve ever swiped on a dating app hoping for something more interesting than dinner and drinks, Carly (@carlyhogannnn on TikTok) just raised the bar so high it might be unreachable.
Her first date sounded like a whole rom-com premise, and honestly, somebody should turn this into a movie: a guy Carly matched with on Hinge sent her a text asking if she wanted to go to an Embassy event with him in Washington, D.C. that same evening.
The catch? It was a formal affair, and he needed her to show up as his girlfriend for the night. No pressure or anything.
“It’s a formal event, like suit and tie, and you’d need to be my girlfriend for the night,” Carly read the guy’s text message to her out loud in her video.
He added that she had to put on a beautiful dress and gave her the details of when and where. Carly said yes and spent the night as this man’s fake girlfriend at a fancy event, and it turned out to be an amazing time.
“We talked to a bunch of people, and they kept saying, like, oh my gosh, all these nice compliments about us, and this guy was like, ‘Oh, who’s this? Your wife, your girlfriend?’ And he was like, ‘My girlfriend, but there’s no ring yet,'” Carly added.
“I was having the best night of my life. It was so fun, like acting like you’re in a relationship for a date, highly recommend.”
Carly even showed off some cute photos she took with her date, and she was dressed in a pretty, light blue dress with a bow, while her date had on a suit.
She did blur out his face, which is a good move, because I’m sure there are girls out there who would be ready to swoop in and steal this man for coming up with such an entertaining first date idea.

“And now I have these pictures, that, I don’t know, I can have for the rest of my life, being able to say I went on a first date acting like a girlfriend,” Carly concluded.
Photos from a fancy Embassy event, a great story, and a night she clearly won’t forget anytime soon. It’s pretty much impossible to find a better first date story than Carly’s!
I’m dying to know if there will be a second date soon, because I am so here for this as a first date! Who knows if Carly will one day end up as this man’s real girlfriend?
