Back when she was in New York around seven to eight years ago, TikToker Alexandra (@alexandraislive) went on a first date with a guy. He took her to a fancy restaurant in an effort to impress her.
It was a great spot, and the date was going well. They were really hitting it off and even shared the yellowfin tuna, which was served raw. For some reason, she decided to order a mushroom soup that she had never tried before.
About 45 minutes later, they were walking around outside when she suddenly started sweating profusely. She felt awful and probably looked unwell because her date offered to let her use the bathroom at his apartment, which was close by.
“It was one of those situations where you don’t even have the time, energy, or ability to be embarrassed, like you just need to survive at that point,” said Alexandra.
Desperate, she agreed. His apartment was beautiful, but she was too focused on making it to the bathroom. She slammed the door shut, locked it, and proceeded to have the worst food poisoning.
The illness came in waves and lasted for hours. He would knock lightly every now and then to make sure she was okay in there.
She ended up falling asleep on his bathroom floor. When she woke up a couple of hours later, he had gone to bed. He had also thoughtfully laid out water and crackers for her so she could replenish herself.
“I was so humiliated at that point,” said Alexandra. “I was so disgusted with myself because no lady wants to completely kill someone’s environment or bathroom.”
First dates are stressful enough without your digestive system launching a full-scale rebellion against you. Once she was feeling better, she cleaned everything up as best she could.

She took a water bottle and left a little note apologizing for the situation and thanking him for being so kind. Then, she snuck out of his apartment.
She never expected to hear from him again. After all, spending the night being violently ill in someone’s bathroom doesn’t exactly make the best romantic first impression.
Anyway, she was just glad that she had survived that bout of food poisoning.
But to her complete surprise, he texted her a week later, saying that he would love to go on a second date. Somehow, all that vomiting hadn’t ruined her chances with him.
Alexandra might remember the evening as one of the most embarrassing experiences of her life, but her date was clearly a gentleman who saw that she was just a person having a rough night and needed a little kindness and understanding.
In the end, he left a strong impression, but Alexandra just could not start a relationship off with food poisoning.
