Or, since Mary was a beautiful young woman who attracted various men in town, did a stalker or secret admirer kill her? Sadly, neither the authorities nor Mary’s family has ever learned the answer. And the lack of case progress has been excruciating for her two daughters– Kira and Amber.
According to Kira, Amber turned to faith in hopes of coming to peace with their mother’s murder. However, Kira cannot rest until she knows that justice is served.
“I just want to know [what happened.] My daughter is ten years old and is asking about her grandmother, and I don’t have any answers for her,” Kira said.
She has created a Facebook page entitled Mary Morgan Pewitt to help raise awareness about her mother’s case and also issued a plea to community members on what would have been her mother’s fifty-fourth birthday earlier this year.
“If this was your loved one or your family member and you wanted to know, just put yourself in someone else’s shoes. It is not too late to speak up,” Kira said in an interview with News9.
As of this year, the OSBI has also asked the community for help in identifying two women. Both of the women were Duncan, Oklahoma, residents in the 1980s and are not suspects in the case.
Instead, OSBI agents simply believe they may have more information about what happened on the tragic evening of Mary’s murder. If you have any information about Mary’s case, you are urged to call the OSBI at (800) 522-8017 or email tips@osbi.ok.gov. Tipsters can receive up to a ten thousand dollar reward.
