This immediately caused her dad to go silent; meanwhile, her eighteen-year-old sister started laughing out loud at her dad’s reaction to the comments.
While shutting her dad down might have felt good at the moment, though, she is kind of regretting it now.
Apparently, after the incident occurred, she decided to tell her other sister about what had happened. And her sister ended up telling her that she could have gotten the same point across in a gentler way– especially because her dad is probably just feeling insecure right now and projecting his own insecurities onto her since he doesn’t know how to deal with them.
Then, her mom also agreed with her sister and claimed she did not have to be so harsh.
So honestly, even though she has gotten super fed up with her dad’s remarks about her appearance, she does feel kind of bad about what she said in retaliation.
And now, she has been left wondering if calling her dad out for his own weight gain was the right way to handle the situation or if it just made her a bully.
Have you ever had a parent constantly degrade your body or weight? How did you handle it? Is “projecting insecurities” an excuse to be fatphobic, or was she just giving her dad a taste of his own medicine? If you had been in her shoes, would you have done the same thing?
