This thirty-seven-year-old woman has an older sister named Jan, who is forty-one. And over twenty years ago, their parents went through a pretty bad divorce.

Now, she claims that from a very young age, it was pretty obvious that her parent’s marriage was really messed up.

“Dad cheated a lot and never tried to hide it,” she revealed.

However, it appears that her older sister never caught on or wanted to accept that reality. Instead, for over two decades, Jan has actually just believed that the downfall of her parent’s marriage was because of a curse.

That belief came from one specific incident when she was six-years-old, and Jan was nine. At the time, her father apparently bought her mom a dozen roses one day.

And using context clues, she was able to figure out that her dad was trying to use the bouquet in an attempt to apologize for an affair.

Well, that apology reportedly led to a massive fight, and that was the end of that.

Then, a few years later, her sister Jan was watching TV when she saw a romantic and “cutesy scene.” This seemingly sparked a lightbulb in Jan’s head, and her sister asked her dad why he never bought their mom flowers.

“Roses are cursed and make your mom mad at me,” her dad told Jan.

So, ever since then, Jan will periodically bring up the idea that “roses are cursed” every few years. But, this is apparently only one of the myths that really upset Jan. In fact, she admitted to not even being able to keep track of everything that Jan believes is cursed.

“She also thinks dates that end in a one or two are cursed, blue trucks on the highway are cursed, different types of food, and a bunch of other stuff nobody should be expected to remember,” she explained.

This past weekend, though, it was her mom’s birthday. And for the occasion, they all got together for a brunch coordinated by her mom’s boyfriend.

Now, she was not thinking about anything– specifically Jan’s superstitions– except what would make her mom happy that day.

So, she ended up purchasing a flower arrangement that included some roses and bringing it to the brunch.

Of course, her mom absolutely loved the bouquet, and she placed it on the counter in the kitchen. Then, Jan showed up later with her family, and all hell broke loose.

At first, Jan apparently walked into the birthday celebration “all smiles.” About an hour later, though, her sister walked into the kitchen, saw the flowers, and supposedly let out a “bloodcurdling wail.”

Finally, Jan started hysterically crying about how the roses were cursed and screaming that the flowers had “made mommy divorce daddy.”

Then, she apparently became the center of Jan’s attention and actually got accused of cursing the whole family just by bringing roses into the house on their mom’s birthday.

Honestly, though, she was sick and tired of having Jan blame their family’s problems on superstition. So, she finally snapped and told Jan the truth.

“I said mom and dad got divorced because dad was banging his way through our whole zip code in the 90s,” she said.

“Flowers are not cursed; we are not cursed. Dad made bad choices, and if Jan couldn’t come to terms with that, then she needed to seek treatment– because her behavior was not acceptable or normal.”

She claims that right after she said that, though, Jan looked as if someone had interrupted her “Oscar speech.” Afterward, Jan also stormed out with her husband; meanwhile, she was left trying to salvage the day for her mom.

Now, since that incident, her mom’s boyfriend has thanked her for standing up to her sister. Shockingly, though, her mom and aunt have actually taken Jan’s side.

They claim that her sister is very “sensitive” and “delicate.” So, she should have known better than to bring roses into the house.

Her husband could not care less about what happened, though, and just will not go to any family functions where Jan is in attendance anymore.

So, with the holidays right around the corner, she has since been left wondering whether telling her sister that their family was not actually cursed really makes her a jerk or not.

Can you believe that Jan has blamed their parents’ divorce on roses for all of these years? Does it seem like Jan might have some unprocessed childhood trauma? Did she have a right to finally tell the truth to her sister? If you had been in her shoes, how would you have handled this situation?
