Her Wedding Day Ended Up Being On Her Father’s Fiancée’s Birthday, And Her Dad Would Not Stop Apologizing To His Fiancée About It During The Event, So She Actually Told Her Dad To Zip It Or Leave
This woman’s father has been with a woman named Marissa for about two years now. And just recently, her father and Marissa even got engaged.
Now, she does not really have a great relationship with her future stepmom because, honestly, she just does not think Marissa is a very pleasant person to be around.
So, this lack of knowledge about each other ultimately led her to unknowingly plan her wedding on Marissa’s birthday. Yikes.
She claims that she genuinely had no idea it was her father’s fiancée’s birthday when she picked the date. And quite frankly, she does not know why she would be expected to know that.
Nonetheless, after her dad found out about her wedding date, she could tell that he was visibly stressed out.
Then, he revealed how Marissa apparently had “a lot of trauma,” so he actually felt guilty spending his fiancée’s birthday at his daughter’s wedding. Jeez.
Still, though, she decided not to get involved and just figured that her father and Marissa would work out other birthday celebration plans or something.
Well, come the day of the wedding– which was last weekend– everything went downhill.
First of all, she is not sure whether Marissa was really upset or not because her soon-to-be stepmom was reportedly very stoic. Despite that, her father would not stop apologizing to his fiancée.
It first began immediately after her father and Marissa arrived at the ceremony. Her father was supposed to go see her in the bridal room, but he decided to bring his fiancée, too, for whatever reason.
And as soon as they walked in, she overheard her father saying he was sorry and asking Marissa if she was okay.
Then, right before the ceremony, he even took Marissa on his lap and began whispering things in his fiancée’s ear. Her father was not so sly, though, and she heard everything.
“He was saying he wished Marissa would open her birthday presents, and Marissa was like, ‘I just don’t want to do it today,'” she revealed.
Then, her father reportedly proposed the idea that Marissa opens her gifts that day, and afterward, he claimed he would buy her all new presents to unwrap on the day they actually celebrated her birthday.
The mushy whispering was not all that happened leading up to the ceremony, either– because soon after, her grandmother also went over and tried to give Marissa a gift. And for whatever reason, her father kept being seriously annoying about the entire thing.
The final straw actually occurred during the reception, though, and she finally lost on it on her father.
While dessert was being handed out, she heard Marissa start complaining about how much she hated chocolate cake to her grandma.
There was nothing anyone could do, though, because the chocolate cake was the only thing being served at her wedding.
So, her father proceeded to take Marissa into his arms again and began asking his fiancée if she wanted to go out after the event to get different food. Plus, he started apologizing all over again.
And honestly, she just snapped and called her father out for making the entire day about his fiancée.
“I yelled at him that if my wedding was such a burden, then [he should] take the child he is dating and get the hell out,” she explained.
As soon as the words escaped her mouth, though, he father looked absolutely horrified. Then, her grandma started tearing into her– claiming that she was an awful person, especially because her father paid for the wedding.
Her father then asked if she really wanted him to leave, and she pointed out how neither he nor Marissa would shut up about the birthday. So, she told him to either zip it or leave.
Now, her father did end up staying for the rest of the evening. But, he was honestly really cold toward her for the rest of the night.
Plus, she even overheard Marissa and her grandmother joking about how her father should rip up the check for the wedding after how she spoke to him.
So now, even though all of the hoopla surrounding Marissa’s birthday really got on her nerves, she is not sure if calling her father out was an overreaction and a jerky thing to do.
Why do you think her father felt the need to apologize repeatedly? Is it a red flag that Marissa cared so much about her birthday on her soon-to-be stepdaughter’s wedding day or not? Would you have also gotten annoyed by the constant birthday talk and apologizing? How would you have handled this situation?
