-1 teaspoon of vanilla
-A pinch of salt
Directions:
First, cream together the shortening, sugar, and eggs. Next, add some sifted flour little by little, then pour in a splash of buttermilk. Repeat this alternation until you have used up the ingredients. Now, create a paste with some food coloring, cocoa powder, vanilla, and salt, and add it to the flour and buttermilk mixture. Then, combine baking soda and vinegar and add that to the batter as well.
Finally, bake the cake at 350 degrees Fahrenheit for thirty minutes. Make sure to thoroughly spray your baking pans with cooking spray so the cake can be removed much more effortlessly.
Now, as for the icing, grab a saucepan and cook the flour and milk together until it becomes smooth and thick. Let the mixture cool completely. Its texture must be thick enough because runny icing on a cake will just turn it soggy and unappealing. With a mixer, cream butter and sugar together. Then, add vanilla and salt. Combine the first mixture with the butter/sugar mixture, beat them together, and spread the icing on the cake. By the way, you’ll want to let the cake cool down before lathering it with icing. For a final touch, Macy arranges cranberries onto the cake for an even more festive look!
