She Avoided Foods That Trigger Allergic Reactions While Spending Christmas At Her In-Laws, Yet She Still Got Accused Of Being Picky And Acting Entitled

This twenty-eight-year-old woman has been married to her husband, who is thirty-one, for five years. And this past Christmas, they decided to celebrate the holidays with her in-laws.
Now, her husband’s parents and siblings all live in a different city, which is over four hours away by car. So, whenever they visit, she and her husband tend to stay for a few days.
It is also important to note that her husband has a fairly large family. And even though his parents have a spacious house, there is only one bathroom despite six people permanently living there.
In turn, there is often quite a long queue of people waiting to use the toilet– which is especially important to note because of her allergies.
She claims that she is allergic to basically all types of meat aside from domestic birds, such as chicken, turkey, or duck. On top of that, she is also “somewhat” lactose intolerant.
She did clarify that her allergies are not life-threatening. But they do affect her pretty badly and can result in a trip to the hospital. Her lactose intolerance will also land her in the bathroom with a really upset stomach.
“Due to this, my husband and I follow a rule where I have dishes containing dairy if I will be at home the next day,” she explained.
“And if we are going somewhere, I normally adapt to a vegetarian/vegan diet to avoid any issues.”
Anyway, since she and her husband planned to stay at her in-law’s house for a few days, she then “adapted” by ensuring they did some shopping before their trip. After all, she wanted to make sure that she would have food to eat while all of the shops were closed for Christmas.

In turn, she and her husband ended up bringing some plant-based milk, juices, veggies, cooked turkey breast, and some snacks to her in-laws. Then, she felt good about her stay and was not too worried about what she would eat.
Well, come Christmas day, she was pretty busy with her sisters-in-law until dinner. So, once it was time to eat, she became quite hungry and did a little survey of what she could have.
Apparently, her mother-in-law had made turkey– which would have normally been a safe food for her.
However, her mother-in-law had also wrapped it in bacon, which would have triggered her allergic reaction.
She did not blame her mother-in-law for that, either, since it was only the second time she celebrated Christmas with her in-laws. So, she didn’t expect them to be well-versed in everything she could and could not eat.
Plus, she figured that she would just be able to eat the precooked turkey breast and veggies she brought to her in-law’s house for this exact reason.
After going to heat it up, though, she discovered that her husband had actually stolen her special food.
“Apparently, my husband got really hungry and made sandwiches with it,” she revealed.
Even though many people would probably be annoyed by that, too, she was actually not angry and just went with the flow.
She made it work with what was available and ended up eating some other veggies at the table– including peas, carrots, parsnips, and more.
She did have to avoid the roasted potatoes since they were made with animal fat, as well as the mashed potatoes since they were made using milk and butter. But she really did not mind.
Her mother-in-law, on the other hand, was apparently acting “weird” about her food avoidance and kept insisting that she tried the turkey. Her mother-in-law even removed the bacon in hopes that she would eat it.
But, she was forced to explain numerous times that taking the bacon off did not make a difference since the turkey was already contaminated and would still make her sick.
She thought everything had gone fine otherwise, though, and did not have a second thought about Christmas dinner. Well, that was until after the holiday ended, when her husband dropped a bomb on her.
Apparently, right after they left her in-law’s house, her husband informed her that they were “not impressed” by how “picky” she acted during the meal. Plus, she got accused of insulting her mother-in-law’s cooking by “behaving entitled.”
So now, even though she didn’t think she did anything wrong at all, she has been left wondering if refusing to eat foods that would trigger a bad reaction at Christmas dinner actually made her a jerk or not.
Why do you think her husband took her food when he knew it was basically the only safe thing she could have at her in-law’s house? Can you believe he tried to claim that she was acting entitled when she was just trying to avoid a reaction on Christmas? Should her husband have stood up for her to her in-laws? If you had been in her shoes, how would you have felt in this situation?
