This woman and her boyfriend have both been working really hard at their jobs. So, for their first anniversary, they recently agreed to stay in a nearby city for a little weekend getaway.

Now, it is important to note that her boyfriend reportedly forgot about Valentine’s Day before this trip.

“I didn’t. I got him flowers and tickets to a concert,” she said.

She also revealed how on Christmas, her boyfriend did remember to get her a gift. But her “present” was a random cheese platter!

So, even though she loves him, she was already concerned about trying to build a life with someone who puts no effort into romantic gestures.

Nonetheless, their weekend anniversary trip was supposed to be her boyfriend’s last shot, his opportunity to make her feel special, right?

Well, spoiler alert: her boyfriend completely and utterly failed.

She claimed that before their weekend trip, she made a conscious effort not to offer any input. Her boyfriend also said that he would take care of everything too.

But, come their anniversary, she realized that her boyfriend had booked “the cheapest hotel” in the entire city.

It was apparently located on the outskirts of the city, had a rating of 2.8 out of 5, and plenty of bad reviews referencing mold and broken heaters.

“It looked like the kind of dodgy place you take your affairs,” she revealed.

Now, she acknowledged how calling her boyfriend’s booking “cheap” might just seem like a petty or shallow complaint. However, she does not want to feel like she has to coach her boyfriend through how to make her feel special after she has already spent a lot of time and money making him feel good.

After all, he reportedly never does any “little things” for her– like picking up a small gift or snack or cooking for her. She also pays her own way whenever they go out because she doesn’t want to “burden” him.

It’s not like her boyfriend is struggling to make ends meet, either. According to her, he makes six figures a year– which is twice her salary– and has already paid off his home.

“So I suppose I fixated on the cheapness of the hotel since money is the one thing he seems to have control over, and this was his chance to do something special for me,” she vented.

Yet, he opted to spend $140 on an anniversary hotel– where she was forced to bring her own sheets and plug in her laptop just to watch Netflix. So, she admitted to feeling pretty heartbroken over how her boyfriend opted to spend their first anniversary. And now, she is even thinking that it may be time to end the relationship.

Do you think it is “shallow” to expect your partner to put effort into romantic gestures? What about on an anniversary? How would you have felt in this situation? Do you think she can reconcile the relationship?
