He said no that she was just his girlfriend’s kid. The woman seemed slightly disappointed in his answer, and so was Amy.
When they got home, Amy asked him why he didn’t just say “yes” at the ice rink and took pride in being Anna’s stepdad.
“I told her that Anna is not really mine, so I don’t think I did anything bad,” he explained.
He thinks he shouldn’t have to start referring to himself as the kids’ father to any degree, especially since they still introduce them to their friends as their “mom’s boyfriend.” He says that he’s doing enough since he still helps to take care of them.
“I do, however, take care of them because they’re kids, and they need to be taken care of,” he said. “But that doesn’t mean we have to pretend that I’m their dad if neither of us wants to.”
Should he start referring to himself as the stepfather of Amy’s kids or leave things the way they are?
