Now, his wife wants to sacrifice their spending money for the dog’s allowance. For instance, he recently wanted to take her out to eat, but she said no because she wanted to ensure they had enough money left for the weekly PetSmart trips.
“It’s not like I don’t want to buy him stuff, but we are barely making ends meet at the moment,” he explained.
“I brought this up with her last night, and she got very upset that I would even suggest not rewarding him. That I was being selfish for wanting to spend the money on myself.”
He tried explaining to his wife that their dog already has everything he needs to be happy and does not need $100 extra worth of things every month. His wife told him they shouldn’t have gotten a dog if he “didn’t want to take care of him.”
“But I do take care of him,” he said.
“We go on walks, play in the back yard, [and] he has a whole room in our house with chew toys and a big bed. I think it is unfair to say I’m not taking care of him because I can’t afford to give him a luxurious lifestyle anymore.”
How do you think he and his wife can resolve this issue?
