She Stopped Having Her Daughter’s Best Friend Over For Dinner Because Of How Picky The Little Girl Was

This woman currently has an 8-year-old daughter. But, at her house, she never cooks any “kid’s food” for her children.

Instead, everyone in her household is expected to eat whatever she makes for dinner– which is usually not food considered to be “kid-friendly.”

Due to this, her children have developed a pretty wide palate and actually enjoy eating a bunch of different foods.

Her son’s favorite food, for instance, is grilled octopus. Meanwhile, her daughter’s favorite dish is pasta with sea urchin.

“Of course, there are things they don’t like, and I don’t force them to eat those things,” she explained.

“But, as a general rule, they have to eat what is available to them.”

One of her daughter’s friends, though, is apparently very picky. The 8-year-old, named Beth, will only eat “kid’s food,” which means that Beth’s family actually has to cook two different dinners every single night.

One of the meals is eaten by Beth’s parents; meanwhile, the other meal is made up of something more kid-friendly– such as pizza with no sauce or chicken nuggets.

Her daughter and Beth have grown really close, though, and normally hang out almost every weekend. So, Beth’s pickiness has caused some problems in her household.

Apparently, the first time Beth ever stayed over for dinner, she cooked some roasted chicken. At that point, Beth’s parents had not given her a heads-up about the little girl’s preferences, so she assumed the chicken would be fine.

Beth just wound up refusing to eat the dinner, though, and asked to snack on Goldfish crackers instead.

So, after that first playdate, she ultimately asked Beth’s parents for a list of safe foods that the little girl likes to eat.

“And I have made those items, but Beth always finds something wrong with them and refuses to eat,” she recalled.

For instance, she once made a pasta dish for her family. But, she only served Beth some plain pasta since she knew the little girl did not like any kind of sauce.

Unfortunately, though, Beth still refused to eat it– because apparently, she made penne pasta, and the 8-year-old only liked to eat farfalle.

Other foods Beth will eat include chicken, cheese pizza, french fries, grilled cheese, and chicken nuggets. But, the little girl will only eat chicken if it is boneless and skinless chicken thighs. As for pizza, Beth only likes pizza from Domino’s without sauce on it.

And even though Beth does like french fries and grilled cheese, she once got those items for Beth from a fast food place, but the little girl still wouldn’t touch the items since they had been in the same bag as her daughter’s burger.

Finally, she had tried to feed Beth chicken nuggets before, but Beth still refused to eat them since they didn’t look like dinosaurs.

So, since she has tried countless accommodations and none of them ever worked, she started to get really sick and tired of the 8-year-old’s pickiness. And this pushed her to start arranging her daughter’s playdates so that way they ended before dinner time.

Eventually, though, Beth’s parents started to catch on, and they asked why she never offered to host Beth for meals anymore.

At that point, she decided to just be honest and explained how she simply could not work around the little girl’s food preferences.

Beth’s parents didn’t really understand that, though, and asked her why she couldn’t just keep a package of chicken nuggets in her freezer to make whenever the girls had a playdate.

“And I told them I wouldn’t do that because I don’t want to teach my kids that it’s okay to request something different than what they’re being served,” she said.

After that, Beth’s parents were not happy and reportedly had some choice words for her. In fact, they are now considering not even letting Beth hang out with her daughter anymore.

So now, in the wake of that awkward conversation, she’s been left wondering whether she is a jerk for not hosting Beth for dinner anymore.

Does it seem like she tried her best to accommodate Beth’s food preferences? Is it understandable that she wants to teach her children to adapt to whatever food is being served to them? Or is it overboard? If you had been in her shoes, how would you have handled Beth’s pickiness?
