Her roommate informed her that his sheets were brand new, and that’s when it dawned on her that his whole bed is the reason why their apartment stinks.
Her roommate’s mattress, pillows, and blankets all reek. She decided to research how to clean those things in an effort to eradicate the smell, and her roommate complied with cleaning everything. Right after her roommate cleaned every part of his bed, the smell disappeared, but she was disappointed to find that the smell returned a day later.
She then deduced that her roommate’s hygiene was contributing to the aroma, as he never washes his laundry unless she gets after him for it, and she has only seen him brush his teeth one time in the three months that he has lived with her. She sat her roommate down and tried to have a conversation with him about his hygiene, but he shot back at her that he had just showered the day before.
“I said it doesn’t matter if you take a shower if you then proceed to get dressed in your dirty clothes and go lay in your dirty, smelly bed,” she continued.
“He also gets mad when I tell him he smells or the room smells. I get that hygiene is a sensitive topic, but I can’t just pretend that I’m fine with him stinking up the entire apartment. It’s embarrassing at this point.”
“I have not shut up about this issue because I can’t stand it, but nothing has changed. Because he can’t smell it, he doesn’t understand how bad it really is. It feels like I need to mommy him and tell him exactly what he needs to do, otherwise, he won’t do it. It’s just exhausting, and I’m tired of my apartment smelling like a 16-year-old boy.”
She is not able to just go out and get a different roommate at this point in time, so she’s left wondering what she can do about the situation.
