Dumplings are so fun to make with the family. It’s definitely an activity that aligns with the phrase “the more, the merrier.” And that applies to both the amount of people and dumplings!

TikToker @itshelenmelon is demonstrating how to make homemade dumplings. With her recipe, you don’t have to make the dumpling wrappers from scratch, so you can breathe a sigh of relief there.

Her recipe for dumplings isn’t a mind-blowing affair, but it creates some classically delicious dumplings!

“There’s nothing inherently outstanding about it, but it’s easy to make while still being WAY better than what you buy in-store or at most restaurants! And, you don’t have to buy a bunch of one-off ingredients you’ll never use again,” she wrote in the caption.

Ingredients:

  • A pound of ground pork, 80 percent lean
  • A pound of ground beef, 80 percent lean
  • Chopped green onions
  • 1 to 2 cups of kimchi
  • 3 small spoonfuls of minced garlic
  • A half teaspoon of salt
  • A teaspoon of pepper
  • Sesame oil
  • Soy sauce
  • Dumpling wrappers

Directions:

In a bowl, add ground pork, ground beef, and green onions. Next, grab some kimchi and squeeze out the extra kimchi juice back into the container. You can save the brine to make kimchi fried rice later or use it for something else.

Chop the kimchi very finely, then throw them into the bowl with the meat. Next, add minced garlic, salt, pepper, and a few swigs of sesame oil and soy sauce.

Now, mix everything together. Make sure the pork and beef are combined nicely. If you’re having difficulty mixing, add a bit more sesame oil.

Before cooking all the dumplings, make a few testers to check if the seasoning meets your standards. One dumpling should have a small spoonful of filling.

You want it to be full, but not so much that the filling oozes out. Too much filling and the dumpling will come apart while it’s cooking.

You’ll want to beat an egg and use that to help seal the dumplings when wrapping them. So grab a package of round dumpling wrappers, scoop some filling into the center, and line the edges of the wrapper with the egg.

Fold them in half and press down on the edges to seal them properly. Boil a few dumplings in a pot of water for about five minutes, then taste-test them! If they’re to your liking, go ahead and boil more. Or you can also pan-fry them.
