He and his sister love guacamole, but she hates it. She’s never liked avocados, and she’s told her boyfriend that many times.
“Normally, I would say something, but it was just sprung on me that they were getting a [starter], so I didn’t get a chance to pick anything,” she recalled.
“So I decided not to say anything, I wasn’t that hungry, and I thought my main was going to be great.”
She watched as her boyfriend and his sister mostly talked amongst themselves until the guacamole came out. They gave her a strange look when they noticed that she didn’t pick up a single chip.
She reminded her boyfriend that she doesn’t like avocados and thought he would’ve remembered that. But, instead of apologizing, her boyfriend seemed angry with her and said she should have spoken up.
She didn’t want to cause any drama and said everything was fine. She said she wasn’t that hungry and would enjoy her entree. Her boyfriend gave her a half-hearted apology, and the rest of the evening was very awkward. She continued to struggle to talk to him and his sister.
When they got home later that evening, her boyfriend told her she was “in the wrong” at dinner and should have said something about the appetizer. She explained that she doesn’t appreciate how he leaves her out of consideration when his family is in town but that she was alright for the rest of the meal. Still, he decided to give her the silent treatment after that evening. It sounds like a lot of drama over some guacamole, but it seemed to draw attention to a deeper issue she’s been having with her boyfriend.
