This 23-year-old woman currently shares an apartment with two female roommates– who are 28 and 25.

And her 28-year-old roommate, named Morgan, sometimes invites friends over to watch movies and drink wine.

But she is not a big drinker and usually only drinks once or twice each year on special occasions.

“The most recent time was because my sister wanted to do a wine tasting while we were on a trip together,” she recalled.

However, while she was visiting the winery, she actually discovered the first-ever bottle of wine that she really liked. It was a spicy wine that had been infused with hot peppers.

That’s why she decided to buy a bottle, bring it back to her apartment, and store it in her area of the shared pantry.

This was a couple of months ago, too, and everything went fine. No one touched the bottle, and the wine remained undisturbed.

But then, one recent Friday night, she arrived home and found her roommate Morgan drinking her special bottle of wine with a few friends.

She decided to confront Morgan about it, too, and her roommate claimed that a friend had popped open the bottle without realizing it was hers.

And even though Morgan realized the mistake not long after the bottle was opened, her roommate still thought it was fine to continue drinking the wine since she apparently said that she didn’t like wine in the past.

“What makes you think that made it ok?” she asked.

“I’ve said that before, yes, but this is literally the only wine I’ve ever enjoyed enough to buy a bottle of. I was saving it for a special occasion or maybe to share the next time my sister came to visit.”

But unfortunately, Morgan and the other friends drank nearly the entire bottle. So, there was barely even a glass of wine left.

That’s why she wound up telling Morgan that she expected a replacement. And at the time, her roommate agreed.

However, a few weeks later, Morgan claimed to have purchased another bottle, and it wound up being a generic bottle of regular wine from the liquor store.

It was at that point that she tried to explain how Morgan misunderstood her. She did not want any old bottles of wine. Instead, she actually wanted Morgan to get her another bottle of the exact same wine from her trip that Morgan had drank.

After her roommate realized what she expected, Morgan’s eyes reportedly became really wide. Then, her roommate started complaining about the fact that the winery was three hours away.

Plus, Morgan tried to say that her expectation was not fair since it was a friend who opened it– not her roommate.

Quite frankly, though, she wound up telling her roommate that she just did not care about that. After all, her roommate knew it was her wine. Yet, Morgan allowed everyone to nearly finish the bottle anyway.

“Morgan could have told her friend that it was mine, put it away, and told me about it, and I would have understood,” she reasoned.

“But no, she let them go ahead and even poured herself a glass. She was still drinking it when I came home.”

So, she ultimately claimed that either Morgan could replace it or Morgan’s friend could. Either way, she did not care. She just wanted her bottle of wine back before the lease ended, and she moved out the next year.

But ever since she said that Morgan has been really mad at her. In fact, her roommate has avoided hanging out in the shared living room and will not even speak to her anymore.

Her third roommate has obviously heard about what happened, too, and agrees with Morgan that she is being unreasonable. The third roommate wants her to just drop the subject and accept the other wine bottle as a replacement. That way, Morgan can “get back to her old self.”

And due to her roommates’ perspectives on the issue, she has actually begun to feel pretty bad.

So now, she’s been left wondering whether wanting her roommate to replace the special wine bottle is too harsh or not.

Do you agree that her roommate should have stopped drinking the wine immediately after realizing it was hers? Is it unfair to expect an exact wine replacement or not? Should she drop it or hold her ground? What would you do?
