“Maximum once a week!” He even put a disclaimer in his video. Also, avoid retinoids and other irritating ingredients while exfoliating.
According to Dr. Shah, there should only be a maximum of ten minutes wait with the exfoliant on your face.
And then, there are two crucial steps after washing off the product with warm water: applying moisturizer and sunscreen in the morning.
“Because your skin will be more sensitive,” he wrote at the end of the video.
In another short video posted, Dr. Shah revisited the idea and listed three mistakes that people make while exfoliating:
One: Exfoliate more than twice a week, disrupting the skin barrier. Two: Using retinoids and exfoliants at the same time would increase irritation. Three: Don’t forget the sunscreen, or else the AHAs (glycolic) will make your skin more sun sensitive.
Have you been following those steps and avoiding what you need to avoid for your exfoliating routine?
