Last February, this woman tied the knot with her husband and entered a “dramatic family” who has always been pretty “neglectful” of her husband.

Just one week before their wedding, for instance, her mother-in-law booked her a last-minute ticket to go on a cruise with the rest of her husband’s family. While on the ship, she wound up contracting a viral disease that caused her to suffer long-lasting symptoms.

In fact, she was still experiencing concerning symptoms after her wedding was over. That’s why she was worried and decided to seek help at urgent care.

“I went through 10 rounds of blood draws on different days and had to stop working because of my symptoms, and I couldn’t do much of anything,” she recalled.

“I was bedridden.”

Yet, throughout this entire time, her mother-in-law never once asked how she was personally doing or feeling. Still, her mother-in-law did watch her pet birds and helped her clean up her house once. So, she just assumed that her mother-in-law showed care and concern differently.

That’s why she was not that upset until her husband visited his parents’ home while she was feeling sick one day. While her husband was there, his mother claimed to “have reservations” about believing that she was actually sick!

“My doctors are currently in the process of diagnosing me with a serious chronic illness that came from the viral disease I contracted on the cruise,” she explained.

Nonetheless, her mother-in-law has used her sickness to try and pit her husband against her.

For instance, her mother-in-law claimed that she and her husband are basically just roommates at this point since they have not been physical. Her mother-in-law also claimed that her husband has been working hard to support her; meanwhile, she “doesn’t do anything” for her husband.

“And that I speak poorly about him behind his back, which I would never dream of doing! I don’t even talk to my mother-in-law!” she said.

Thankfully, her husband did ignore his mom’s comments– because, quite frankly, her mother-in-law had no right to make such assumptions. Still, her mother-in-law has tried to get her to visit her in-laws on a few occasions, and she just avoids it.

At the end of the day, what her mother-in-law said about her illness really hurt her feelings. She has been sick for five months now, and she’s felt absolutely terrible.

So, while she’s tried to give her mother-in-law the benefit of the doubt, the woman constantly makes rude remarks and has crossed her boundaries one too many times.

That’s why she’s only seen her mother-in-law twice since the comments were made about her sickness.

The first time she saw her in-laws was when her husband’s sister hit her head and passed out, and they went over for a visit.

About three hours in, her sister-in-law started discussing what happened, and she could relate to passing out since that’s part of her syndrome.

After she tried to relate to her sister-in-law, though, her mother-in-law actually just made a face, scoffed, and left the room. Then, before they headed home, her mother-in-law snidely said, “Thanks for finally stopping by.”

More recently, she and her husband visited her in-laws for a second time to watch some fireworks. But during the fireworks display, she actually passed out.

Rather than being concerned, her mother-in-law actually just laughed and rolled her eyes.

Now, her husband has continued trying to keep the peace, but she can’t stand being around her mother-in-law anymore.

“I feel like I can’t confront my mother-in-law since she thinks her conversation with my husband was in confidence,” she vented.

“And I feel like I could be doing more, but I just feel really hurt.”

So now, she’s been left wondering whether avoiding her mother-in-law is justified or if she really should try to be more tolerant.

Why do you think her mother-in-law refuses to acknowledge her sickness? Should her husband try to keep the peace or step up to defend her? If you were in her shoes, how would you feel?
