She Refused To Invite Her Stepsister On Her Birthday Trip To Los Angeles And Then Called Her Stepsister Out In Front Of Their Friends For Throwing A Tantrum Over It

When this 16-year-old girl was very young, her parents separated. Then, by the time she was 6, her mom had gotten married to her stepdad– who happened to have a daughter who was the same age as her.
However, she and her stepsister really just don’t get along. Sure, they don’t hate each other, but they never had a sister or even a friend relationship.
It’s also important to note that while her mom and stepdad are stable in terms of finances, they don’t have a ton of extra disposable income.
Her dad is not very well-off, either, but being that he is single and she’s his only child, he can afford to purchase her nicer items.
That’s why, when she turned 16 just last month, her dad decided to take her on a trip to Los Angeles for 10 days.
He also allowed her to invite five people, and she opted to bring three friends as well as two cousins from her dad’s side.
Once her mom found out about the vacation, though, her mom was not happy at all. It turned out that her mom and her stepdad were also planning to take a trip to Disney during the winter, and since she had never been there, her mom wanted the first visit to be as a family.
“My mom tried to convince me not to go, but it was during my dad’s time, so there was nothing she could do to stop me,” she recalled.
“And after my mom realized she couldn’t stop me, she tried to convince me to take my stepsister so she wouldn’t feel jealous.”

At that point, she did consult her dad, who claimed he didn’t mind taking her stepsister if she wanted to extend an invite. After all, they were going on a road trip– not flying– and her dad’s car could fit a total of eight people.
But, she claimed that her dad’s car gets really uncomfortable when there are three people sitting in the back seats. More importantly, she just didn’t necessarily want her stepsister to go on the trip.
So, she ultimately decided not to invite her stepsister, and that did not go over well at home.
“My mom and stepsister were [furious], to say the least,” she said.
“My stepsister threw a tantrum on the night before I left, but I didn’t really care.”
She just arrived home a few days ago, too, and it appears that her stepsister is still very upset. In fact, just two days ago, her stepsister posted a story on social media about how “spoiled” girls get to go on vacation; meanwhile, her stepsister is forced to work during the summer.
Now, her stepsister didn’t exactly reference her in the post. But she knows that it was obviously about her.
Then, some of their mutual friends went over to the house yesterday, and the topic of her vacation naturally came up during a conversation. At that point, her stepsister flat-out called her a spoiled brat who gets everything she wants.
Apparently, her dad got her a car, and her stepsister was angry about that since she’d been spending the entire summer working just to buy a decent vehicle.
And in terms of the trip to Los Angeles, her stepsister claimed that Disney was just for “little kids.”
Anyway, tensions have been high at home ever since she got back from the vacation, and she got really fed up with it. So, she decided to tell her stepsister off in front of their friends.
“I said she’s just jealous, and I told our friends about how she was acting like a little kid– crying and throwing a tantrum– because she wanted to go to a place that’s for little kids,” she revealed.
After she spilled the beans to the group, some of their friends began laughing. This pushed her stepsister to start crying and leave the room, and her stepsister wouldn’t come back out until everyone left.
Her mom wound up finding out about what happened, too, and now she’s in big trouble. In fact, her mom threatened to take her cell phone away, but she clapped back at that. She pointed out how her dad bought her the phone, so her mom wasn’t allowed to take it away.
This only made her mom more furious, though, and she got yelled at for being “an ungrateful brat.” Her mom also claimed that she could go live with her dad if she was going to “act like this.”
She did later call her dad and got him to pick her up. However, her mom quickly tried to take back the threat.
“My mom’s really upset because she didn’t actually mean it. She was just really mad because I embarrassed my stepsister in front of her friends,” she vented.
Regardless, she has since stayed at her dad’s house, and her mom has been blowing up her phone. So now, she’s wondering whether not inviting her stepsister on her birthday trip and badmouthing her stepsister to their friends was really the wrong thing to do.
Why do you think her mom expected her to invite her stepsister if it’s clear they don’t have a good relationship? Did she have a right to say no since it was her birthday trip? Do you think it was wrong of her to badmouth her stepsister in front of their friends, or did her stepsister deserve it after posting online?
