His Girlfriend Has A Major Surgery Scheduled For This Weekend, So Although He Wants To Dump Her, He Doesn’t Think Now Is The Right Time

This 30-year-old guy has a girlfriend a year older than him, and over the course of the last four months, they have really hit a rough patch in their relationship.
He honestly is done and would like to dump her, but this weekend, she has a major surgery scheduled, and it can’t be moved.
He is willing to hang in there and be her support system as she recovers for the next three months.
His girlfriend has four children (none of them are his), and she has nobody in her life who can be there for her other than him.
Her family members and friends are self-centered and have shown no sign of being willing to step in to help his girlfriend on her road to recovery.
“My thinking was I would end things after she is recovered and give her more than enough money to get her back to work and make sure she’s safe for a year or so,” he explained.
“What scares me is that my just packing up and going, after months of her relying on me and thinking that things might be getting better, will leave her unable to ever trust again. She has trust issues already, and this feels like lying to her in a way. I’m not lying when I say I love her, I do.”
“But things have deteriorated so much, and both our mental health is down the drain. I can’t keep going. If I were to somehow see dramatic changes, yes, I would want to stay. But I just can’t see that happening.”
He and his girlfriend have begun going to therapy together, but it’s become an outlet for his girlfriend to vent all of her irritations instead of trying to fix things and work towards a better outcome.

He isn’t sure if it will hurt his girlfriend less to break up with her before her surgery or after, but he knows if he says something to her before the surgery, she’s going to tell him to leave her.
“Should I wait until after the surgery?” he wondered. “I can at least say that I stayed, still wanted things to work. I just am confident they won’t.”
