He Broke Up With His Girlfriend Because She’s Obsessed With Taylor Swift And Was Trying To Find A Loan Shark Just To Buy Tickets, Which They Couldn’t Afford

This 23-year-old man and his girlfriend, 25, live in the Philippines.

A US dollar is equal to about 55 pesos in the Philippines.

Where they live, you have to work for a few months to be able to afford a PlayStation 5.

He and his girlfriend both work in customer service call centers at two separate companies.

In June, it was announced that the only Southeastern country Taylor Swift would be performing in for her Eras Tour in March of 2024 would be Singapore.

“My girlfriend has been a huge Swiftie since forever, so I witnessed firsthand how she was extremely devastated about it,” he said.

In July, his girlfriend suggested the idea of both of them saving up so that she could buy a ticket to the concert in Singapore and attend by herself.

He was stunned by this, acknowledging that this would equate to about eight to ten months of their income combined, and they also have to consider all of their monthly expenses.

“It caused an argument between us because she was desperate to go to the concerts to see Taylor Swift. I put my foot down and told her no. If I agreed, we wouldn’t have emergency funds or ‘fun’ money for several months. It’s totally out of our budget,” he explained.

After their fight, his girlfriend has since emotionally pulled away from him. He’s done his best to make her feel better. He purchased tickets for her and her sister to see the Eras Tour Movie when it was released because he thought his girlfriend would be excited, but it didn’t help to ease the tension between them.

Two weeks ago, his girlfriend’s sister called him and let him know that his girlfriend is in the process of trying to borrow $900 (50,000 pesos) from a loan shark in order to fund her trip to Singapore to see Taylor Swift in concert.

“She also told me to check my wallet because my girlfriend is considering pawning off my credit card to that loan shark as some sort of leverage or assurance that ‘we’ would pay in time. Thankfully, my card is still firmly tucked inside my wallet. After the call, she sent me a couple of screenshots containing messages dating back from mid-July. Sure enough, my girlfriend has been looking for a ‘reliable’ loan shark ever since then,” he shared.

His girlfriend’s obsession with seeing Taylor Swift perform live drove her to search for loan sharks.

While this was terrible enough, he became enraged when he saw that in September, his girlfriend was sending messages wondering how she could “‘borrow'” his credit card without him finding out.

The same night that he learned this information, he had a discussion with his girlfriend, and she cried uncontrollably the entire time.

When he questioned her about the validity of the text messages between her and her sister, she had an emotional breakdown, and it was so intense that they couldn’t even have a productive talk.

He tried to talk to her for an hour, but when she wouldn’t stop crying after that, he broke up with her, packed up his stuff, and walked out of their apartment.

Understandably, his girlfriend’s risky financial decisions she was thinking about making were too much for him, and it was clear that her obsession with wanting to attend a Taylor Swift concert had crossed the line into unhealthy territory.

Since the breakup, his girlfriend’s whole family has been calling and texting him over and over, even though he told them what she was doing.

His girlfriend’s mother called him three days after the breakup, and he explained the whole story.

When he asked his friends and family for their opinions, they all had varying points of view.

Some of his loved ones said he made the decision too quickly and thought that he didn’t have much of a legitimate reason to break up with her.

A couple of his best friends said that they could see his girlfriend’s perspective, while other friends of his agreed with his decision and told him that they would have broken up with her, too, if they’d been in his shoes.

Do you think he did the right thing?
